When Cecil is playing the duet, I can't use the dictaphone on him - or anything really. Left-clicking on the dictaphone in the inventory has the same effect as right-clicking on it, i.e. Lauren explains to me that she uses it to record her dreams and then I get the choice, at the bottom of the screen, to listen to her recordings or put it away.

The inventory is actually buggy in general, and most of the time the only way I can unselect an item is by switching to Joey for a moment. But this inability to record the duet is the worst example of the inventory bug so far, as it's actually game-breaking. :-(

ETA: Same's now true of all other items in the inventory. I.e., the only option now is to look at/examine them, not use them on anything, and that look/examine option comes up no matter which mouse button I click.

ETA2: Found a workaround!

I'm having exactly the same problem! :(

How did you work around it?
To fix it, just right-click on an empty point of the screen. The issue happens when you have some item selected and you change from Lauren to Joey.

I can't post the source-link for some reason, but you can find a thread about this issue on the wadjet eye forums under the subject "Blackwell Unbound Inventory Error"
