Is it me, or do the graphics and animation seem to devolve as you play through? Seems to me as though 1 had the most sophisticated finish. When I got to 4 I was disappointed that the little cutouts of Joey/Rosa and everyone else were no longer animated.

Love the series, would love to see shiny new, 3d polished episodes. Obviously they are written by a writer who loves to tell these stories...and we love playing through them.

I liked it better when they were animated too! It was disappointing to see it removed in 4. Maybe they'll be back in #5?
I just finished all 4 of them and I would say they tried to experiment with visuals. When I started playing 2nd episode, I thought their designer just left. Now I would say it was intentional. To give it more retro feeling. But a progress is there. For example, I stopped and looked how the waterish gate in after life (4th episode) is animated because it moves in very detailed manner.

1, 2, 3 are the best, graphically. Beautiful pixel art.

I played a little of the 4th game and I was disappointed with its look, especially with the mixing of low, medium, and high resolutions.
