I'm still a bit iffy with it if I'm honest.

I am still in the tutorial section I think (just learnt how to craft weapons) and I am an old, slow idiot but I think I'm struggling with the auto-dash toward part.

I like dynasty warriors where you just combo randoms for days but with this I keep finding myself running toward the camera or to the side at an enemy I can't even see.

I'm guessing I just have to get used to not attacking immediately after dodging?

What are your experiences so far?

I think the combat in general is fun, but I would like a better hit response. And what really gets in my personal way sometimes is the camera. Oh boy I really do not like the camera movements and adjustments with the right stick. And the enemies in general could be a little bit harder to defeat. I play the game on hard and yeah doesn't feel like it is hard.

I left the tutorial section but I am not far in yet.
I saw reviewers say the same about hit response and while I totally see it I don't mind personally.

I haven't noticed camera issues for me but maybe that's why I'm struggling with the homing attack.

Definitely too easy. I went normal because I'm casual but may have to raise it.
Controls are made for consoles. Thats what sucks so far about the game. They need to fix it. PC players shouldnt be an after thought.
Definitely need proper control mapping for k&m. I'm ok as I play on my TV with controller but PC always seems to get the rough end one way or another with multiplatform games (controls, splitscreen etc)

Happens only when studios focus on consoles/controller. Some studios get it right. HZD is one of the best console to PC ports ever. I really hope Forbidden West eventually gets a PC port as well.

I play with controler on PC still funky camera control.
Ok, after the slight slog of tutorial and first hour or three I now love combat.
Changed my FOV to 90 and turned off the camera focusing only on the player.

That coupled with a better gun is much more to my liking. I can see why people may initially dislike the game. Having a blast now.
At first, it was rather off-putting, and basic feeling. it was hit stuff, shoot, or spell, but as I opened up more combos and other things it changed. I really enjoy the combat now.

also as DABYX has said adjusting the FOV and focus help a lot. thanks for that tip DABYX

Agree it did seem a bit basic. No worries, idk why the default FOV is 70ish. very zoomed in!
Pretty ok, the hit sounds need a rework, its a bit tiresome using a heavy axe and its the same kathunk!
Hoping the studio won't flop and the game gets better like No Mans Sky, with a few patches.
Besides that, other weapons and unarmed combat is quite fun, though unarmed is a bit underrated and hard to do damage with on Hard difficulty.
Also playing on Mouse/Keyboard, it was hard getting used to for a bit but after 30 minutes it is almost fluent to hit alt and space (mac keyboard, extra finger spagetty)
Folks claim its for console controls only is dumb, hey if your fingers cant handle that, why not buy for 30$ one of the ShanWan PS3/Xbox clone game pads. There pretty Decent. Used it too but i just don't like using game pads much. Equally fun to play with.

Profound_Tanuki: Folks claim its for console controls only is dumb,
Most games can be played with a keyboard and mouse on PC. Some things are easier with a keyboard and mouse, some things are easier with a controller. But people have very strong opinions about things. If something is slightly more comfortable this way for them, then the other way is utterly rubbish and cannot be used by anyone.

I prefer a controller for this one, but I haven't noticed any part that I couldn't do with a keyboard and mouse.

But for some games I use both. Games like GTA5, Cyberpunk 2077, Far Cry 5, etc.. I do the shooting parts with keyboard and mouse but use the controller for driving. So the controller is there just for the driving sequences, on it's little stand I bult next to my keyboard so I can switch during the going into a car/mounting a horse animation.

Point is: do whatever feels most comfortable for you. It's all a matter of taste anyway.

Except if you are a Soulsborne player. Then do whatever causes the most pain to you. Glue thumb tacks on your keyboard or something.
Mash button. Higher level mobs just have more hit points. Mash button more. You can bounce enemies in the air with an ability or two and jump and mash button some more.

Yes I've tried mixing it up with abilities but they are basically just another way to punch an enemy. Most of the time you can get right in under the chin of the bigger enemies and they don't know what to do. Their AI just breaks and they don't try to use any of their special attacks. They shuffle around and do not attack you. You have effectively stun locked them. For smaller enemies you can just 1v1 punch stun them. You don't need to parry because they can't fight back. This works about 99.9% of the time. The only time you get broken out of these loops is when you're facing 3+ enemies. Oh, and this is with the weak psych character with just a couple level up put into Strength and Vitality and almost max Intellect. Is it faster to take them down with magic missile into their face? Yes, kinda sorta, until you run out of ki juice. Punch until you get ki back up. Or just keep punching. It takes a similar amount of time.

TLDR it's boring and what fights there are are few and far between.

Logitech G just added Biomutant support in the 2021.6 update.
