I own the game on Steam and Humble Bundle and both versions give me horrible controller problems, especially with XInput based controlelrs. The Humble Bundle version having a broken controller set-up screen that does not advance beyond "Press Button to Start Set-up" and doesn't let you configure your controller, and in the Steam version the game doesn't recognize the analog triggers or D-pad at all, which strangely not an issue with the older vanilla version of Beat Hazard Classic that was sold on CD-ROMs on Amazon from testing every controller I own (Xbox One controller, 8bitdo SN30 Pro in XInput mode, GameSir G3w, and Logitech F310 in XInput mode). I ask this because not only am I considering buying this game again for GOG, but I wouldn't want customers looking to play the game on controller only to find out that their controllers don't work properly or not at all with the GOG version which is the problem I am still dealing with on Steam and the DRM-free version from Humble Bundle.

Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Home, 64-bit
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750
CPU: AMD FX-4350

That is not good... This is falsely advertising a feature on GOG that outright does not work.

Strange. I don't have that problem at all. My Xbone controller works just fine. (Win10)

I don't have the GOG version, but I do have the DRM-free Humble Store version and it just did not work with my Xbox One controller whatsoever and I'm also on Windows 10.

EDIT: Were you using the controller wireless via Bluetooth or something or through a wired USB connection?

The older wireless version with the USB stick

Mr.Mumbles: The older wireless version with the USB stick
I'm using the newer Xbox One controller model (MODEL 1708) with a bluetooth dongle and the game doesn't register inputs beyond the title screen thanks to the broken control config screen in the Humble Bundle version.

EDIT: I've tried using my Xbox One controller with the Steam version and it still doesn't work, wired or bluetooth.

If you have no XInput-compatible controller, you need this tool:
www.x360ce.com

(This is a common problem for games just supporting XInput and not the older DInput-interface with an older controller)
As a special program Beat Hazard needs HookSA to be activated:
github.com/x360ce/x360ce/wiki/Compatibility-List

This way it works with my Logitech Rumblepad 2.
I have several different versions of the game and never had any significant trouble getting my controllers to work.

It worked out of the box with my ancient&weird PS2/PC controller (Thrustmaster DT 2-in-1, both Windows and Linux), my XBox One controllers (wired and wireless, only on Windows, because thanks M$) and some XBox360 controllers I borrowed from a friend (wired, both Windows and Linux).

The only issue I encountered a few days ago was that I just could press the "A to use a controller" button. No inputs were registered afterwards in the main menu. This happened on Linux.
The fix was rather simple: after activating the controller, navigate to the Controller input settings with keyboard/mouse and start the rebind process. After rebinding all the buttons it worked again flawlessly.

Hi all,
Sorry for the long delay.
This should now be fixed in the latest build.

There are some serious problems people are running into with the latest build on top of Xbox One controllers not working properly with Bluetooth dongles:

Also, what happened to the Humble Store version and why can I re-download something I legitimately purchased for Windows?

hello !
I just bought beat hazard ultra on GOG (I have the older one on steam) I love your game but like others,
I have 3 issues :
- on my xbox one controller (bluetooth version) it doesn't recognize right and left triggers and when asking to remap button I have to push left on the right stick when it ask to push right on right stick to be ok in game
- the game doesn't have fullscreen 1920x1080 in options and I have to ALT + ENTER to have fullscreen mode each time I launch the game
- it is also strange to not have the folder when I want a track in particular

thank you !

I'm experiencing these issues too with the DRM-free Humble Store version, though I think I may have found a temporary workaround for the trigger issue with XInput Plus.

EDIT: The lack of folder problem is actually causing my game to crash after indexing my music into the game. Great...

Hi AmethystViper,

Can you post a list of the problems you currently have and I can go through them?

Btw, there's no conspiracy, I'm just one guy working on multiple versions and multiple platforms of a game. Mistakes just get made.

Sorry for the late reply, but here are a list of problems I'm dealing with currently on the DRM-free version of Beat Hazard Ultra, which I also brought up on the Steam forums.

Music selection is broken/missing options
For some strange reason, the build that I got from Humble and going by another user's post for the GOG version, the music selection screen is missing the ability to select music from folders, missing internet radio, and can't go back to select even the base game's soundtrack. Because of problem, if you try to index a lot of music (in my case, I had about ~1.5K pieces of music on my computer's Music folder) then try to play a game mode, the game just crashes, rendering it unplayable unless you delete the music saved onto the game and killing a good part of the game's appeal.

Bluetooth XInput controller problems
I and another user above as well as others on the Steam forums reported, the game still refuses to register to XInput controllers being connected via Bluetooth — in my case, an Xbox One controller and an 8bitdo controller set to XInput mode via a generic Bluetooth dongle — and for some reason the game thinks they're DirectInput controllers, and for some reason it doesn't recognize the analog triggers nor D-pad as a result, as well as vibration feedback not working, despite what one of the past updates claims. It works fine when connected via USB, but with Bluetooth that's where these problems came in, and I never had this issue at all with the old CD-ROM version of the game which was able to recognize my XInput controlelrs connected via Bluetooth just fine as XInput controllers.

Fullscreen function does not work
The recent update broke the game's Fullscreen mode and it always starts in Windowed mode, regardless if you set the game to Fullscreen in the video settings menu or attempt to use BeatHazardPrefs.txt as a workaround which didn't help. Adding to this, I can't help but noticed the V-sync option was gone and I am also getting some performance issues that I didn't have previous even though my PC is more than meets recommended requirements.

Shadow Ops not working properly in the DRM-free releases
Some people here on GOG as well as well as on the Steam forums mentioned problems with the built-in Shadow Ops DLC for the DRM-free versions.

Missing Internet Radio support in DRM-free version
Adding to aforementioned missing folder problems causing the game to crash, the DRM-free version appears to be missing Internet Radio features.
