I have Battlezone 2 on Steam.
and recently I decided to buy it on GoG. The intention was to play it with friends per LAN. and the only reason to buy it on Gog was, that they promise, it is drm free!

so, long story short:
my friends have problems to go to the game multiplayer lobby.

Error: "There was a problem communicating with Galaxy Client. Ensure client is installed and running and signed in before starting"
this looks to me, that we need gog galaxy app. -> galaxy app started -> same fault

next: there was a button to connect with gog: we try it, but then he has to enter a "Redeem Discount /Game Code" (never heard about). but if you dont have this code, you cant connect. (picture)
Do I have this code? if yes, where? and can I share this code with my friend or 3 other friends?

in common: is the Multiplayer REALLY DRM free????

Just use Hamachi and click the lan only option. And no, you're not supposed to share codes with your friends, lol. That could be considered piracy. That's one of the reasons modern games don't have lan anymore.

is this the policy of GoG?

that you have to use other apps to use the games?
in my opinion, there has to be a option to use the game as GoG promise........

Some games require Galaxy for online play. But I think Battlezone should be good if you just use Hamachi which simulates lan across the internet..

I think you missunderstood my problem. we was in the same network, so hamachi isnt needed.

the problem is this error.....
"There was a problem communicating with Galaxy Client. Ensure client is installed and running and signed in before starting"
we get the error in the game.

someone out there had the same problem?

From a dev on Steam forum:

"- Uninstall full game from steam

- Uninstall beta version

- Go to - C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games and delete Battlezone Combat Commander folder

- Go to - C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\ and delete their BZ2R and BZ2R Uploader folders

- Go to - C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games delete the Battlezone Combat Commander MP folder if they have one and delete anything else named battlezone"

Please let me know if this helps, sorry it took some time to get back to this. Hope it works :)

Also if you're using GOG (which I imagine you aren't but worth checking) you have to be set to online in GOG's apps to play online.

Not entirely sure why your "why can't I do LAN without requiring GOG Galaxy running?" question wasn't getting understood, but GOG forums don't tend to have as much traffic, depending, and I, myself, have yet to attempt LAN with either Battlezone game.

So instead, you might want to try seeing if you can prompt an official response on this via sending an email to Rebellion, or their twitter or something. The Steam boards for these games also seem to get some of the developers' attentions. There's one or two threads asking about offline (Steam offline, or no GOG Galaxy) LAN support, with a dev saying that they'll get back to them on that, but no responses after that I can see.

GOG support might also respond and perhaps make inquiries about it to the developers. It's definitely an issue if a supposedly DRM-free game can't use even LAN features without a third-party service. Online multiplayer I can grudgingly accept third-party services, but not for LAN.

Relevant Steam threads:

It's possible there was an update since then that changed things, but again, not something I've tested personally to know for sure.

Im 100% with you on this! Was pretty pissed not being able to play lan. I own the original version on disk from 19xx. trying to launch the old version and was pointed here to the re-release, bought it immediately when i saw, Lan, Fix Multiplayer, AI and 1080p. Then was hit with this shit! Why do i need internet to work lan? Thats the whole point! No internet, no lag.
