Do heroes return in later missions if they died on a earlier mission?
Or are they gone from the campaign once they're dead?

What I mean by this is: Should I restart/reload after a hero dies or should I just keep going?

Regards

You can keep going if you've rescued those Zen- Masters in the first encounter. Later they can be summoned back from the Keep. Some of the ZM are important to keep alive always (see in mission objectives).

Edit as of 25 Feb: Corrected the info with the help from the fellow gog samaritans.

Great! Thank you!

But, when first getting the hero, doesn't he need to survive initial mission?

In some cases yes. To make a hero available in later missions, you have to find/rescue him, and make sure he survives to the end. In later missions he will be then available as a hero in the Keep.

Yeah, that's what I had in mind. Wanted to make sure if it's accurate, and if so - mentione it here for others. :)

Hell yeah, I forgot to mention this important detail, but that's basically what I meant (or I thought I meant) by "some ZM are important to keep alive". c:
