This tweak works for me to start Incubation under Windows 10.

But I'm still can't start the Wilderness Mission under Win 10 :-(.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for the Sound file fix guys. I was getting really annoyed at this game not launching.

TEknen: The replacement DLL works - however I've found that the in-game music stops looping after a while on Windows 10 x64.

Anyone figured out how to fix this? - I've tried using the latest winmm.dll, however the same issue occurs.
Same here. Was watching the intro, after it cut to the three squaddies with 3 aliens the music and effects disappeared. When I exited the cutscene to the menu I got menu sound effects but no music. (using the sound.dll fix)
Below given solution worked for me..

Start the computer in Safe Mode.
Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time to open the Run prompt.
Type into the Run prompt: rstrui.exe.
Press Enter key
Click Next to proceed.
The next step is to select the date you want to restore to
Click Finish to confirm the selected restore point.

FOR ALL YOU WHO CAN'T GET THE WILDERNESS VERSION WORKING... DO THIS:

1. First rename the audio.dll file to something else (e.g. audio_old.dll)
2. Make a copy/duplicate of the working sound.dll file, and rename it to audio.dll
3. Enjoy the Wilderness too.

The reason behind it, is that both Sound and audio are essentially the same file apparently, and therefore you need to do the same as what you did for sound.dll as you did audio.dll Simples. :)
REBOOTED MY SURFACE PRO AFTER APPLYING FIX IN THIS TREAD, WORKED, I'M DUMB.

Hey guys, I dont know if there has been a windows update here, but ive tried this fix and am having no luck on windows 10.

Replaced the sound.dll and audio.dll but im still getting the same startup error.

Is there anything else that need to be turned on, installed, or otherwise voodoo'd?

If i click on the shortcut...the mouscoursor show me that anything will be loaded. And than...no error...nothing.
but in the task manager incubation runs with round about 14% CPU usage.

someone an idea?

skymt: Right, my bad. I probably would have remembered to upload it when I posted if I hadn't stayed up late banging my head against this thing. Here's the DLL that works for me. Rename the existing sound.dll in your Incubation install to something else, drop this in its place, then run Settings.exe to switch to 3Dfx mode and you should be good to go. Just post if you have more problems or the file host doesn't work.
Thanks works for me perfectly.
I have a solution for not working sound.dll.

In my case the sound.dll mentioned earlier does not worked I still had the IO error mentioned at start.

I do not have English names on my computer, so pleas write the right options name if you can.

The solution that worked was:

1 Finding the game folder

2 Clicking on the folder icon with right mouse button, the choosing "properties" (the lowest option)

3 Moving to the tab "accreditation / access / ACL " (second tab from left on my computer)

4 clicking on the "advanced" (button with windows shield)

5 clicking on the "laws / access" (the left button just up over OK button)

6 signing everything on the right sight on yes, unsigning everything on left.

One thing - at my book you I make a great place for attack and so on. do not do this in your company, operating system for job and so on. You do it on your own responsibility.
I replaced my sound.dll because i had the same problem and now my game starts and seems to work, bot some sounds are missing like all dialogue sounds(yes my dialogue sound is turned up ) anyone any idea? Is this related to the dll or is this another problem?

Try replacing also the audio.dll with the sound.dll you downloaded. (change the name to replace it)
It works to some degree, voices in the intro and the first briefing mission play as normal, but the second briefing mission is still silent.
EDIT: restarting the game can fix specific cases of missing voices

ok .. one of the simplest fix`s isn't downloading settings or files for win 10 .. its actually installing the legacy driver on windows 10 which is turned off by default (stupid Microsoft)

1. go to windows features in control panel. (type fea in run bar and should be first option)
2. look for legacy components and select the item inside that folder.
3. install the file.
4. reboot and launch game (presto … game now works)
While trying to get the game working I made two observations:

1)
In order to achieve a running base game I had to replace sound.dll.
To launch the add-on I needed to swap sound.dll and audio.dll.

As it is quite unconfortable to move the files manually all the time, I have written a small
app that automizes this process:
https://www.imagenetz.de/m5oob

Just put the files in your game's installation folder and run the app by double-clicking
Run_BII.vbs.

2)
This game seems to be very sensitive. Several times I found apparently not correctly
ended iprocesses of launcher.exe in the task manager, or experienced crashed
instances of it in the cache blocking a new start of the program. The only way to wipe
out all that debris is a clean system reboot.

skymt: I got Incubation running on Windows 10 after staying up way too late last night. Here's how: GOG uses a library called for some games to play back music from .ogg files instead of CD audio. A change in Windows 10 [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_xwing_and_tie_fighter_series/working_with_windows_10]broke the library, and GOG hasn't shipped an updated version for Incubation. So I replaced its "sound.dll" with the "winmm.dll" from a GOG installation of Jedi Knight.

After that, it would display a black screen and immediately crash. That I fixed by running Incubation's GOG "Settings.exe" and switching from DirectX to 3Dfx mode, which uses the nGlide wrapper. Then I was able to launch the game and load into a mission without any apparent problems.
OK this works 4 me 2.
But I have to play a little bit with the nGlide Settings before I can start the game.

So the way was:
Replace Sound.dll

choose 3dfx mode

try different Settings with nGlide ;-)
