Well, bought the Battle Isle Platinum this weekend. Just got around to checking if the games are all working properly, except the first one (and it's expansions).

It boots up, plays the intro (which I can skip by pressing ESC). Then it shows a title screen, the words "Welcome to Battle Isle" and the staff credits roll through. And that's it. No keyboard, no mouse, no joypad command leads to any reaction, so it just loops showing the credits indefinitely. Why could that be?

Hi, I can get to the intro screen but the selector is stuck on the exit option irrespective if I have a gampad iconnected or not :(

So something very odd, maybe GOG support need to provide comments here.
Wish I could help with that, but it works fine for me. But I haven't tried playing it with a gamepad, but with Battle Isle 1 that could be a good idea.
You should write to support on the support page, as far as I know they don't always read the forums.

Did you ever find a solution for the first one? I just purchased and have the same behavior...just scrolling with no way to stop/interrupt to get to any menus or whatever is supposed to be next.
I know it sounds stupid, but have you tried the Space bar?
Yeah, I'm having issues too on my laptop - I can't even skip the intos and then get stuck at the credit rolls
I CAN play History Line if I sit through the intro but I guess that's because it doesn't HAVE a credit roll...

I tried looking at the DOSBox config file but it doesn't look like its formatted properly making it pretty hard to read, with notepad a least

Actually DOSBox just doesn't seem to like my laptop's (Dell Latitude 3330) keyboard at ALL - didn't work for mast of magic either or even when I just ran the DOSBox exe straight - just sat at the prompt and didn't respond to anything!

It's the *nix line endings. Open it in Wordpad or better yet notepad++.

Ah OK I'll try that, thanks but as I say, vanilla DOSBox doesn't seem to respond to my laptop's keyboard from at the prompt so it's not looking lie a config file thing now...

Yes, but I don't have any good suggestions for that. I knew the notepad config answer. ;)

I've seen a few other people complain about non-working keyboard with DOSBox. Believe they also had laptops, but I don't recall seeing any posted solutions. Only thing I can think of offhand is a computer restart, disable/uninstall special keyboard/mouse software and check for any [url=http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=41913]similar threads.

Yeah, I was googling and finding Vogons thread but most of them just seemed to be incredulous at noobs and when enough people chimed in to convince them that there was a genuine problem they didn't know a solution

Ah it's OK anyway, I'm only on my laptop because I'm not at home and trying to kill some time, on the plus side King of Dragon Pass works fine on this laptop when I could never get it going on my desktop, so there's that

Thanks for your help anyway - that config file thing probably will come in handy in the future...

IIRC, someone recently had trouble with keyboard input on one of the IE games, not exactly uncommon with them, but in this case it was caused by their security software. You could try tracking down a debug build of DOSBox. That may provide additional information. Then there is also GOG support. ;) Actually, a support ticket would be useful if only to highlight the systems with problems. Main thing now is to play KoDP.

Definitely consider that a win. Be sure to read the manual first if you haven't already. It even contains the tutorial, but be sure to start a new game after you run through it.

Doesn't look like there is a proper solution. Seems it's a SDL bug. Playing around with the keyboard drivers should fix, well workaround, it. Still play KoDP first.

Bless you. 10 years after you wrote this… I had the same problem and it worked
