is there any way to save game progresss
as s for save dosent work and scenarios are long without save

For the first game (and its expansion packs)? Press D when you're prompted if you're ready to switch turns and it'll bring up the save menu. Just press space when it prompts you for a save disk, that's all a bit out of date. :)
