Can someone help me figure out how to play this game in English?

I'm in Germany, and apparently something in the process told the game it should be in German. I'd much prefer to play the original, though -- but I can't find any menu in the game or the downloader to switch languages. Any advice is much appreciated.

I'll tell you what both GOG Support and Telltale told me. Basically, there isn't, there hasn't been, and there probably won't (ever) be an option in-game to switch menu/subtitle language since it's bound to your system settings. What you need to do then is go to Control Panel > Region > choose Administrative Tab > in section for non-Unicode programs change system locale to chosen language (English in your case).

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much, that's the solution! :)
I wouldn't call that a good solution though, it is
sad to hear that.
A lot of the other games out there support switching languages and subtitles in the game itself and do not rely on such stupid things as system settings.
It is ok to have it as default choice but players should always be able to override it in an easy way.

Steam Users can change the language of the game without changing the system language so there IS a way to do it.
I haven't tried it but maybe you could try this and report if it works

https://github.com/xupefei/Locale-Emulator

That or MS applocale they are basically just tricking the program into thinking that the above system setting is different but it saves a restart and a system wide setting change. The MS program isn't supported any more and I'm not sure which OSs it works on definitely not Win 10 as I found the above program on a post stating that.
Usually, I'm buying games on GOG rather than Steam, but since I won't be able to play the game properly in english (not interested in switching system language) I'm going to buy the game on Steam :-(

Wrote this comment in the hope that GOG has a greater influence on Tellatle than a single person.
Hello,

I'm from Germany, too. And I have the same problem !
But I don't want change my system language.
That NOT a good solution, that's only a very lame response from telltale.

An unchangeable connection between the system language and the game language.
WHY WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER THIS A GOOD IDEA AND PRACTICAL THING TO DO???

At least give me an option while installing!

I played the "demo" on steam (in English!),
but I bought this game specifically on GOG to support them rather than steam.
Big mistake, now I have to deal with this crap ... thanks a lot...
Well, it is not GOG's fault - it's Telltale's. Sadly it seems some game developers are oblivious to the fact that some non english gamers still prefer to play in english.

I hope that sooner (rather than later) a feature similar to Steam's will be integrated in GOG Galaxy....
same here, gog is the best but this issue made me buy it on steam..
OK, is there a way to change the language to English that doesn't involve having to restart Windows every time i want to play this *single* game? There isn't even any other audio but English anyway, i find it severely immersion-breaking to hear and read two different languages. I'm not goung to buy this game again on Steam, that would just additionally reward the developers for a bad design decision.

Sadly, no.
Shame on you GOG and Telltale...
Steam version let us change the language so no false excuse...

But yes the solution of the second post works, it doesn't change the language of your system and you just have to reboot once. But still...
