Just installed the latest version of the widescreen patch on Baldur's Gate II, but after I enter the correct directory, the DOS prompt shows up, displays a bunch of text, and then closes before I can read any of it.

I guess I was supposed to be prompted to input the resolution, but it never gave me the option. The game doesn't run in widescreen, either. I followed the directions in the "essential mods" (so I'm playing both the games with the Trilogy mod) thread and have everything else working okay.

Hmmm....not the worst thing in the world if I have to play it in a normal resolution, but it would be nice to put that extra space to use. :)

It sounds like the mod is not completing due to some kind of error. First, try running it via the command line instead of double-clicking on it in Windows. Also, it should leave behind a log file in the mod directory or in the game's top-level directory that can make it clear what's going wrong.

Try running it in administrator mode, after it has installed you will be able to find the DOS prompt launcher in the BG2 folder (if you don't know where that is you shouldn't be installing mods lol).

I find running everything in Administrator mode fixes almost every problem with mods.
Thanks for the quick replies! I tried running it in administrator mode, but it just did the same thing. I also tried looking for a log file, but couldn't find it. I only found the log file for the mods I've already installed, and it didn't say anything about the widescreen mod.

I tried figuring out how to do this, but no luck. I got the command line to open up and typed "c:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate II\widescreen-v3.05.exe but it tolled me that wasn't a correct command. My DOS days are long gone, and I can't remember how this stuff works. :D

Just as a heads up: if you want to avoid headaches, install your games outside of the Programs or Programs(x86) folder. Something like in C:\Games. You'll have far fewer issues that way.
Aha. Found the debug file. This is what it says:

Would it be okay if I moved them all now? I know back in the day this could cause problems, but this is the first PC game I've played in about 6 years. ;)

Vlantis, I'm not sure, but I think you can, as I don't think the game puts anything into the registry. You can always try copy/pasting the whole installation into another folder and try running it from there. Then delete the old one if you find it works.
Just tried copying it to a new destination. The game works fine, but the widescreen installer just does the same thing.

Only a couple things I can think of:

- Turn off your antivirus and firewall when installing the mod (just disconnect from the internet for the few moments it takes to do this).
- what version of the widescreen mod are you using? I'm on a Win7 64 bit machine and had no issues with the mod. Version 2.60

Weidu is having trouble updating the widescreen .EXE, so try updating it yourself. Delete or move "setup-widescreen.exe". Make a copy of "setup-GUI.exe" and rename it to "setup-widescreen.exe". Then try running "setup-widescreen.exe" again.
IT WORKED!! Thanks!!

That's not the end of the installation, that's the start of the part where you actually choose what resolution you want to play with.

Basically, it works like DOS command lines, just type the number corresponding to the option you want (0 in this case), then press the enter key to confirm.
It'll then prompt you to enter the width you want (again type the number, press enter) and the same for height.
well, yes, many thanks, does width and height correspond with screen resolution?
