OKay, so let's say I've downloaded a full rip of Dracula Unleashed, designed to run on DOSBox.

It consists of the following:

The dosbox.conf file itself, which is configured like to you indicated before.

Also in a folder called dracunl: 1) a BA1 file called Dracula Unleashed (1993), 2) a Windows batch file called IAFIX.BAT and 3) another folder called cd.

The cd folder contains: 1) a BIN file called Dracula_Unleashed.bin and 2) a CUE file called Dracula_Unleashed.cue

These files are supposed to be prepared for DOSBox, but I simply have so little programming familiarity that I have no idea how to use DOSBox to get them running. Do you have any idea?

Many ideas, sure. 1) Is "BA1" a typo and it should be bat? If not I have no idea what it is. If you open it in notepad is there text inside?

2) What's inside of IAFIX?

3) bin files are more often associated with installing old game software than they are with running it.

4) don't know what a cue file is.

5) Any txt files or readme files?

5) Seems like there should be a lot more than what you've listed.

6) Where did you download from? - I can go and look at this stuff myself if I know where.

Sorry, downloaded from Myabadonware.com. There is a CD image zip file and a full rip zip file that is supposed to be configured for DOSBox. However, neither file contains an executable file to play the game. There is a also a patch file you can download there that does contain a dracula.exe file, but when I type in the command "dracula" in DOSBox, I always get the error message "Data files not found."

Are you typing this in the dosbox console? It's not really dos. There is at least one thing you have to do before you can exe. As I recall it was a mount command. I don't recall it all that well, so type in "mount /?" (without the quotes). This should display the syntax. (Much more syntax than you need probably). As I recall you need to use a drive-letter that's not in use on your PC, and assign it to the directory where the game is. Then enter "<drive letter you selected>:"' Then enter dracula.

Green_Hilltop: I really liked BG1, but BG3 seems to have jerk characters.

Which game would I like if I enjoyed BG1 (haven't played BG2 yet but it feels way more dark)? I know about POE and Kingmaker, but I'm not sure about them, as I didn't like POE's storyline (I had the ending spoiled), and I heard that Kingmaker is not as coherent or something - but I'm willing to give it a try, so I'm asking for advice.

I'm looking for: a) fun exploration, you play as a good hero (so no Tyranny)

b) puzzles and secrets are always welcome

c) fun characters that aren't jerks to you, like most characters in BG3 (both female characters that are out so far - how surprising, and partially Astarion from what I've seen).
