Thanks for getting back with me Hickory. If I understand correctly, on th positive side the games can run in more platforms but the downside is that the images are blurry and inferior. Do I have that correctly?

Thanks again

That's correct, yes.

Hickory: As for the eye candy, the enhanced have inferior blurry graphics.
This can vary depending on your hardware, graphics drivers and selected API, I believe.

No, it's worse, period.

No blurry graphics for me, except when I use zoom.

That's probably because the EE default is "zoomed out" smaller than the original. Get the exact same asset size on the screen and the originals are FAR clearer, crisper and simply better.

If you compare BG Original in 1080p with BG EE in 1080p without zoom you'll get a comparable asset size. In my case everything looks the same. There can be problems on different configurations though. I don't deny that.

That's precisely my point. BG original has no 1080p. It is designed for 640x480. I have both versions and if you compare them at the same zoom/resolution the evidence is plain to see. Convince yourself of the lie if you must, but the evidence doesn't lie.

Remember the assets in this game, regardless of version, are fixed. The original assets were lost so the 'enhanced' versions are second-hand copies made by ex-modders. The enhanced 'zoom' gimmick is nothing more than screen resolution manipulation.

Does someone even play BG1 in native resolution these days? Almost everyone uses widescreen mod when playing the original version. And the fact is it's nearly unplayable in 1080p due to tiny assets. You can change the resolution of EE, if you really want to. This will solve the graphics downgrade because you won't have to use zoom.

From what I've heard only some assets were remade. This includes characters and their animations, UI and perhaps some other things. I don't think Beamdog has changed any of the environment assets.

Yes, I do. The hundreds of screencaps on my blog prove it. Do you have a problem with how I play my originals?

Your facts and assumptions are quite simply wrong.

You can even install a downgrade mod and play the game in 320x400, on a 10 inch black & white screen, as long as it gives you joy. :)

Except BG1 wasn't designed for that resolution. It was designed for 640*480 at 4:3 aspect ratio, as its UI and fog of war proves.

So maybe we should redesign it. ;)
