There's some sort of mod to change the text to bigger sizes?
It's difficult to read (see image below) in some resolutions.

some consider them too big, though. I can live with some cut-off tooltips for the sake of my eyes.

Alternatively you could take the Fonts from Ghostdog's UI (http://www.spellholdstudios.net/ie/ghostdogs-pst-ui) for PS:T but you'll have to rename the TRMTFONT.BAM to normal.bam

Yeah, it seems too big.

How exactly I put the font in the game?

Easy:
Download the mod and extract the .7z file. Ignore the the *.exe, you won't need it. Goto:
GhostDog's-PST-UI -> Fonts
There you will see 4 Folders called "cp1250", "cp1251", "iso-8859-1" and "iso-8859-2" go into the latter (iso-8859-2). There you are again confronted with 4 folders ;) Called Size13 and so on. Ignore the folder called size13. The folders size15, size16 and size18 each contain a "trmtfont.bam" file. These are the Fonts you want. Choose one of the three sizes, rename it to normal.bam and past it into your override folder in the BG directory. If you are unhappy with the size you can always try one of the other two sizes.

Damn that sounded complicated. I hope it was somewhat understandable. Simplified version:
Extract&Open Ghostdogs_PST_UI_mod_v2.01 -> GhostDog's-PST-UI -> Fonts -> iso-8859-2 ->Size15, 16 or 18 -> Rename trmtfont.bam to normal.bam -> past normal.bam into override folder of you BG install.

The only downside of this method is, that you have to live with the planescape look of the font, but it's either that or the much bigger fonts.

Thanks, TehMarv! : )
The minuscule letters are horrible...
Good thing now I can see the text clearly.

Although the solution posted by TehMarv in November 2010 still works (it's January 2015 as I type this), there is now a better and easier solution.

TehMarv's solution was to download a mod made by Ghostdog for Planescape:Torment, and copy the font files from that mod into your BG2 folder. This still works (I tested it) but it does give you a different font; the one from Planescape. It looks OK but it's very thick.

Since that response was created, Ghostdog made another mod for larger text in BG2, and it is easier to install. To my eyes, this is the best of the "larger font" mods, and it retains the Baldur's Gate font. I've attached some screenshots so you can see them for yourself.

Because my reputation here isn't high enough, I can't post a link to the newer mod. But if you search Google for "Bigger Fonts mod for Baldurs gate 2" it will be the first result. It's at shsforums, with exactly that title on the mod page.

The attached screenshots show the Widescreen Mod at 1600x900, and this Bigger Fonts mod.

Hats off to a great community at GOG. Finding the mods I needed to play BG2 fifteen years and many versions of Windows later could not have been easier. I hope this information helps someone else. If this information is helpful to you, I would appreciate a Rep point so I can post links directly in the future. If I get enough mod points, I will put the link directly into this message. :-) Cheers.

Update: Thank you for the mod points! Here is the direct link to the mod I described:

Hi TehMarv, thanks for posting such a detailed explanation here. Is there also a quick (or long) answer to:

How do I make the font in Planescape:Torment white and/or drop-shadowed?

I have a hard time reading the green pop-up text even at larger Ghostdog sizes.
