Stig79: This is a shit move my Beamdog. Plain and simple. It is the kind of low I expect to see from a company like EA. Pure slime.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: Well, even lower than EA, actually, really. I myself never remember EA *begging* for positive reviews, using influence to have negative reviews deleted, making forum posts listing game feedback containing problems, bugs and opinions on bad game design and performance disappear, or trash-talk their paying customers with an attitude instead of promising to fix a malfunctioning piece of sh*t and most importantly, a word completely unknown to them, *apologize*... EA, when their games were problematic, at least they released a damn fix to address issues (i myself still remember the first lord of the rings strategy, it had a serious issue and they released a fix in zero time, even for the retail version).

Beamdog, on the other hand...
But, but, but....it is Gamergate?!?!?

Wow... and here I was, thinking Beamdog was fixing to be the new EA. In light of this info, that would actually be an improvement. What I do know is, if Beamdog keeps behaving the way they've been behaving, they won't last long (unless Baldur's Gate fans become so much like Star Wars fans that it no longer matters).

Have a look over at the Beamdog forums. If someone has a valid complaint about something, he gets attacked asap by fanboys. One bit of criticism and you get labeled a bigot. Pointing out a plot-hole in the story really just means you "hate the transgendered character".

Vitek: Yeah, they were probably still outselling the Enhanced Edition and everyone could see them on top of bestselling games. So that's why Beamdog most likely decided to not allow people to purchase them instead of their version.

Hickory: Quite. And now, new players coming to the franchise will never see or know that the classic versions exist: you cannot find them on GOG at all, except buried in the 'included with...' blurb. From top sellers to total obscurity. This is disgraceful.
Indeed. It is utterly disgraceful, and I will no longer buy games here as a result. And since all other outlets are even worse, that means no more games for me. Oh well. Was fun while it lasted. At least I have the proper Baldur's Gate games to keep me busy.

I miss GOOD OLD GOG, before they sucked.

Why do you keep a grudge against Gog? Most likely they were forced to do so by a publisher of the game.

Because GOG most certainly had a choice in the matter, and this isn't the only point GOG has been disappointing with lately. There has been a negative trend for some time, and this just adds to them. These were some of their best selling games for crying out loud.

I think only choice they had was either to do this or not sell the games at all (either original or "enhanced").
I bet it's not like it was their idea. More likely they were approached by Beamdog and they told them either directly to do this or just simply remove original so their game sell better and maybe it was even GOG who came up with idea how to keep them at elast in some way.
I have no way to back this up or even know if it is true (and possibly it isn't at all) but of what I am almost certain is that GOG didn't do it willingly.

Like I already said, and like Vitek said abouve me, GOG's choice was more than likely a lot more limited than you think

Why on earth would they stop selling a game that was probably one of their better sellers?
Because the people that own said game said they can't. GOG doesn't own the rights to baldur's gate, they can only sell it if the rights holder arrange a deal with them to do it.

If said rights holders say "nope sorry, can't sell it seperate any more" then they have no *real* choice.

They either do it the publisher's way and don't sell it seperate, in which case you can't buy it; or they do it the other way and say no, in which case you can't buy it.

GOG may do shitty things, I'm sure there's a long list of things that are iffy at best, but when the publisher doesn't want them to sell a game, they can't do jack shit about it.
Yet they were selling that game for many years. If they have such poor negotiators, that they willingly agree to not selling some of their best ever games, GOG needs to take a serious look at what they are doing.

Of course none of us know what really happened, but we can draw some reasonable conclusions, and I think that includes GOG having some say in this decision. It's a despicable on in any case, by all involved parties, and as mentioned, I will not buy any more games here because of it.

I can see that nothing I say is likely to change your mind, but remember this:
Beamdog and co are the ones with power in this arrangement.

Fckthwrld91: I am sure it was able some time ago. I read something about the games beeing fused? I dont get any of this, and i dont find any articles... I just want to experience the classic game, without Mods, enhancements etc.

Thanks in advance!
If it serves any help, I'm in this same situation, including not wanting to pay any money to beamdog. What I've done is purchasing a 4 in 1 boxed set, BG 1 & 2 + 2 expansions at Amazon. It's been 11 euros + 2 for shipping, and from the outside it looks like a brand new copy (still wrapped in plastic, I just had it delivered and I haven't opened it :-D)

Of course it's not as convenient as the digital GOG copy, and I don't know how much effort/time it will take me to get the thing running in Windows 7 (or if I will need to rescue an older PC from my technological junkyard), but if you're as pissed with beamdog as I am, it's an alternative you might want to consider.
