I searched for and answer to this question-I have to believe that others have the same problem.
I have stacked items in my inventory, such as 40 throwing knives, or arrows, etc. that when I sell them require 40 mouse clicks. The same if I want to separate say, 5 0f 10, potions to share with another party member.
How do I separate or select all or part of a stack?

Well you can't be talking about original BG1 (stack of 40) so you must be talking about BG2 or EE. Click inside the box with the number, delete and re-type how many you want to transfer.

And if you do not know what box with a number Hickory is talking about:
Double-click the stack to get the window where you can split, ot at a merchant can set a number to sell.
