After installing all the mods here, my game won't start :(
First a window with nothing but "-1" in it pops up, then another error message appears: "An Assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at line number 834"
Any suggestions that could help?
I just bought BG1 and BG2. I also read through this entire thread. I have windows 7 and am not sure if the instructions will work for me.

A couple of things.

1. I am unclear where I should actually save the mods for BG1 and BG2. Some people were posting that they should be put in the easytutu folder AND the BG2 folder. Am I just pointing the entire install into the main folder or am I dropping specific files? A detailed description of this would be great as it seems to have hung up a few people.

2. When going from BG1 to BG2 there were a few people asking how do they export their characters and get the choice of the new kits for BG2. I'd like to know too.

3. If i didn't download anything and played the vanilla would I be able to export and play as the game was intended for BG2?

4. If I decided to play Vanilla BG would I be able to export my characters into the modded version?

5. At least one post indicated that the fonts should be downloaded last. Can anyone comment on the difference suggested in the first post vs the post 62?

6. Can someone confirm if the Beregost issue has been resolved at this point? If so should the instructions in the first post be altered?

best regards,

Fathem

For Vista, Win7 or 8.
Right click on your setup_baldur'sxxxxxxxx.exe & run as administrator.
On the first screen tick the EULA & on the bottom left, click on options.
Change the "install games to" to c:\games\baldur's gate or e:\games\baldur's gate if you'd rather.
Anywhere but ProgramFiles(86).

Start each game & make sure they both run with all default settings before you mod or change anything.

Once you have installed EasyTuTu you will have a clean install of BG1 (This can be uninstalled if you need the space, or left for future installations of TuTu, or playing the vanilla version for comparison)
You will have a TuTu install, from where you play & mod the BG1 part of Baldurs Gate.
You will have a clean install of BG2, from where you mod & play the BG2 parts of Baldur's Gate.

I make a seperate directory to download mods to ie: E:\Games\BGMods
When modding EasyTuTu all the mods will be BG2 mods, some written specifically for the BG1 part of the game (like BG1NPC's) & some not (like bg2fixpak or bg2tweaks)
.exe mods like bg2tweaks can be run from you mod directory & where it says "destination folder" you browse to you TuTu root directory & they will run the setup-xxxx.exe automatically.
With archived mods ie: .zip, .rar etc you extract them to your TuTu root directory.
Then you should end up with a setup-xxxx.exe & often a xxxx.tp2 in you TuTu root directory & all the other mod files in their own subfolders. sometimes the xxx.tp2 is in a subfolder
You then run the setup-xxxx.exe to install the mod.

If playing with TuTu you will have the new kits in BG1.
To export your Character from TuTu, while in the character screen of the game, click on export.
type in your name ie: Bob & then click done.
You will now have a Bob.BIO & a Bob.CHR in your TuTu Characters directory, copy them to your Characters directory in BG2, then in BG2 when you start a new game click on import / character file. & choose Bob.
Or you can just copy your final saved game from TuTu to your BG2 save directory & then choose import / saved game / Bob. (handy if you forget to export your character)

Most certainly, just the same as above.

fathem: 4. If I decided to play Vanilla BG would I be able to export my characters into the modded version?
Yes, no worries

I don't use a font mod, because I play at 1280 x 720 & it's not needed.
So I always install the widescreen mod last.
But if you read the readme of the font mod you choose, it will tell you if it has to be installed after the widescreen mod.

If you get this version of Easy TuTu
http://usoutpost31.com/easytutu/
Then the Beregost bug has been fixed.
It is the nature of mod guides that they are outdated as fast as they are written.
I just wanted to thank you for the very exellent post. I appreciate it tremendously. :)
Hi, I have followed the instructions in the first post. I have started BG1 and it appears to be working, the only issue is that cutscenes aren't scaled up in size and instead appear at what I assume is their original size. Anyone know if this can be fixed easily? If not, it's not a big deal, I was just wondering. Thanks.

That is just the way they are, the widescreen mod doesn't effect the cut scenes.
I followed the official GOG guide for modding Baldur's Gate and one thing that didn't install correctly was the Baldur's Gate 1 Unfinished Business mod. This mod needs to be installed in the Baldur's Gate 2 folder (assuming you are doing Weidu), not the Baldur's Gate 1 folder like the install directions state. I started a new game a few weeks ago after installing all the mods and am currently in Chapter 6 before finally realizing today that none of the content from the BG1UB mod was in my game despite "successfully" installing it in my BG1 folder. So I installed it today in my BG2 folder and now I have most of the content from the mod implemented in my existing saved game (all the quests and shops I had already completed/visited were not implemented in my saved game like the Bereghost shop having the Helm of Charm Prevention or the correct end to the Nashkall Mines Mysterious Vial quest which kind of sucked).

I had one question about what I posted above, after installing the BG1UB mod, I re-installed the widescreen mod and it disabled and uninstalled some of the BG1UB stuff. Why did it do that? In response, I re-installed the BG1UB mod so that everything was "installed successfully" and everything seems to work fine in my game except it now seems like the first few opening seconds of the Black Isle cinema that plays when you fire up the game no longer displays (the one with the lighting on the mountain--the whole cinema scene plays it's just that the screen is black for the first 2 or 3 seconds). Does that happen in anyone else's game?
I'm not sure which guide you followed, are you using TuTu or BGT?
You said you reinstalled the widescreen mod after BG1UB, did you uninstall the widescreen mod before installing BG1UB, or did you leave the widescreen mod installed & then just reinstall it again after BG1UB?

Also, not a good idea to install a mod like UB without starting a new game.

I installed the widescreen mod before the BGUB1 mod. Apparently there shouldn't be any issue installing the BG1UB mod midway through my game cause I didn't install any NPC banter mods or quest mods. I just have BGT, BG1UB, BG2UB, BGFixpack, and the Widescreen mod installed.
Edit: removed links on request.

Enjoy :)

Jegriva: I cant' play because EasyTutu ask for the BG2 disc... which I don't have, since I bought the game here.
I had this problem after installing the easytutu stuff and checking BG1 every step of the way. Then when I started playing properly I picked tutorial, rolled character etc and had the same problem - "no disc 2".
It seems to be a problem with tutorial, don't know if that's where your problem lies...?
For me the easiest way to install Baldur's Gate Trilogy was to use Big World Setup. It automates almost everything including downloading all the various individual mods. One can refer to the BiG World Project PDF if one gets stuck. For some reason I'm not allowed to post links so I guess you'll have to web search the information yourself...

So I installed all the mods for BG1 including the font fix, and now whenever I start the game there is floating text that is cut off at the top left corner of the screen. From what I can tell the text is just a copy of the introductory message in the text box in the bottom, but I don't know if this might become an issue later one in the game if there is floating text or something. Does anyone know if this is an issue that will affect text later in the game and possibly make it hard to read or understand things? In fact has anyone else even had this issue in the first place?
So, I'm not tech savvy in the least and I'm pretty sure I failed to install just about every item on this list & would love some direction on this.

I installed BG1 & BG2 (both purchased here on the latest sale) into my GOG folder.

Then grabbed the entire download list that Thorandor put up on the 5th page of this thread.

Started by "unzipping" (I guess that's what I did) the EasyTutu_TOB.exe and installed it in a new folder in the GOG folder on my C drive. Thus that folder contains 3 main files: "Baldur's Gate" "Baldur's Gate 2" and "Easy Tutu". That's the only install I got w/o an error message.

I did get Tutu to open BG1 and guess it was working (didn't actually make a character just opened to menu).

Then loaded Degreenifier, 1st to a new 4th folder in the GOG, but got an error message. So deleted it and loaded into the "Easy Tutu folder" got another error so just left the files there and moved to next step.

Thus put widescreen and BG1UB_v.12.exe both into the Easy Tutu folder and ran setups. Both gave me error messsages asking me to install again.

What did I do wrong? What exact folder do these files go in? And was I supposed to do some BG2 patch before any of these mods anyway?

Any help would be appreciated. (if what I'm desiring game wise changes any advice, this is my goal: I want to make BG characters, and play through to TOB. I've beat BG many years ago and don't remember much. Played BG2 maybe 2 years ago, got thru Underdark and Spellhold but then life pulled me away. So, I've seen much of vanilla and would like all the added bells & whistles with most ease of use as possible. Probably will ever only have time for this 1 play through anyway.

In that case, you will want to scrap TuTu and go for BGT (Baldur's Gate Trilogy) instead. You will not need the de-greenifier with BGT. Just be aware that BGT installs to the BG2 folder, so every mod you install affects BG2.

What you need to do is install BG1 and BG2, then install in this order (I have no idea what mods are included in those file sharing links). Remember that all mods, including BGT go into the BG2 main folder.

Ascension
Turnabout
BG2FixPack
BGT
BG1 Unfinished Business
BG1NPCs
BG1NPC Music
D0 Questpack
BG2Tweaks
<any other mods, like NPCs etc>

Baldur's Gate Trilogy will take your character, Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, Viconia and Edwin all the way through from BG1 to ToB, as the same characters with stats also carried over -- no more creating or importing characters for BG2/ToB.
