A friend and I have been playing Baldur's gate 2 shadow of Amn for about a week now. About 7-8 hours into the game. After one night we went to bed shutting the game down normally. The next night when we tried to play we couldn't connect to each other no matter who hosted it, we've tried everything, reinstalling and all that, nothing seems to work. This is our first time playing through BG2 and we would very much like to work towards finishing the game. If anyone has any assistance on what we may do, or any questions on what's going on please help I'd be so thankful.

Sorynis.
Note : we are also using Hamachi, and today we got it to work for about an hour to two tops. then he had to reset his game and we couldn't get it connected.

The problem with BG on modern OS (even on a fully patched WIndows XP) seems to be that the DirectPlay/TCP-multiplayer mode seems to be rather broken. I tried for literally _hours_ to get it to work to be able to play BGT with my girlfriend, though none of the packet dumps I skimmed thru hinted at the root of all this sinister evil of crap not working. In the end, I worked around the problem by creating a virtual Serial-over-IP-Setup (by using com0com and com2tcp), and we've been playing over our "Serial" connection ever since. That works out very well in fact, the only limitation is that your session is limited to two players. I might be able to whip up a step-by-setp guide for the setup if you're interested.

That would be amazing if what trying with GameRanger doesn't work, you know what, do it anyway just in case:P

Actually, GameRanger, it works perfectly we're having no lag issues or anything. I recommend that program. Thanks for the help and the posts guys <3

Glad to hear it. :)
I would be interested in hearing how you managed to overcome this issue. I've spent hours combing over the internet and I really just want to play with my friend.
This worked for my friend. Failing that, as the response in that thread says, there's always the upcoming Enhanced Edition that'll presumably work with no fuss.
