Hello all,

My party has already had the drow illusion spell cast on them, and I've managed to get them past the front gate with no issues. However, immediately upon entering the city, the drow become hostile for seemingly no reason. Would any of you folks happen to know of a fix for this issue? I have both the fix and tweak packs installed. Thanks a bunch!

There is something that you could try, but it may not work, depending on the exact set of circumstances that happened prior to you entering the city. You could try to reset the variable 'DROWCITYHOSTILE' to zero, though this will not work with a game that was saved after entering the city, since every character/creature that turned hostile (those in sight) will still be hostile, as they get saved into your saved game. To reset the above variable open the console and type (exactly):

CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("DROWCITYHOSTILE","GLOBAL","0")

Remember, it is very important that you reset that variable -- if, indeed it has already been set -- in a game that was saved before you entered the city.

Thanks for the suggestion, Hickory. I tried using your console reset on the bridge outside the city before initiating any conversation with the gate guard, but the city is still hostile. Is the drow illusion spell supposed to alter the appearance of my party? The dragon said she cast it, but there was no change to my party visually. Could that be the culprit?

Have you installed the Baldur's Gate 2 Tweak Pack, and more specifically the part of it which makes your appearance alter? If so, then something's going wrong there, but the vanilla game doesn't alter your appearance (by my understanding). If you have an earlier save, try reloading to before you spoke to the dragon.

I assume, by the way, that you didn't enter the city before you were disguised at any point?

I just double checked, and I did install the appearance tweak. I uninstalled it and tried the console reset again; still no luck. And no, my party has never entered the city in the save I'm using to attempt these fixes.

Well, the first thing to say is that you should never uninstall or install mods mid playthrough. It will almost certainly break your game. Yes, this includes modifying the widescreen mod, as I discovered. I'd suggest you reinstall the tweak as a priority, and reload a save from before you uninstalled the tweak. Check everything seems ok, too, and I believe you'll be ok. Hickory can probably tell you more accurately than me, though.

Beyond that, I'm afraid I don't know the game well enough to identify the issue, though other people on the forum might.

I'll be sure to do that. Thanks for the advice!

Did you see the drow scout run off towards the city just before you reached the gate? I'm just wondering if, by any chance, you managed to kill him. Since he is of the city, that may have caused the city to turn hostile. It's a long shot, because I'm not even sure if you can kill him. Other than that, I can't think why the city would be hostile before entering, if you have Adalon's illusion in place, unless... you gave the gate guard reason to distrust you. How did you answer his greeting?

Your avatars do change their appearance to Drow in vanilla (I see you have the tweak installed from your other comment, though), but that is purely cosmetic and has no bearing on the hostility, or otherwise, of the city.

Actually it does; see above.

Is the drow scout supposed to speak to my party? If so, I have no recollection of that occurring; I don't remember seeing a scout at all, honestly. As for the gate guard, I've tried both bribing him and lying about being chased by elves. No matter what I say to get in, my party is attacked immediately.

EDIT: To clarify, my party is attacked upon entering the city. The guard lets me pass and the other drow remain neutral.

No, the scout, who appears hostile, is at the start of the gully that leads to the gate. As soon as you see him he runs off to the city. When you approach the gate you are greeted by the guard. The guard needs to be treated as though you ARE a Drow -- no bribing, no 'being chased by elves' line. You are supposed to be expected... it's part of Adalon's disguise. Just tell the guard who you (supposedly) are... Veldrin. That may be your problem.

When I speak to the gate guard (Viconia is in the party, by the way), I'm not even given an option to call myself Veldrin for some reason. I think I'll try to speak to Adalon again and return to the city outskirts... Hopefully, I'll run across the scout this time. Perhaps I missed him the first time or he didn't spawn. I'll post again later to report my results. Again, your help is much appreciated, Hickory.
Still no sign of the scout. Perhaps I killed him and just don't remember it, or he didn't spawn for some reason. Is it possible to "reset" the zone via the console or a save editor? Unfortunately, my last save before the city gates is several hours old at this point, so a re-run isn't really an option.

There's no way to reset the zone without effecting everything inside of the Underdark, so short of going back to your last save you are going to have to deal with it. It is quite possible to get Adalon's eggs while the city is hostile, provided you are prepared to battle your way through -- it's not as tough as it sounds with the right strategy and tactics. Obviously you would miss out on the quests and vendors within the city, though. Do you have an autosave that you could fall back on? Moving through party essential transition areas, like the Kuo Toa tunnels, the Elder Orb warren or the Illithid city should create an auto save. If you do, make sure you make an explicit (new) save before you continue.

Won't he have overwritten that autosave when he entered the city, though?

My auto-save has the same issue, so I'm probably out of luck. I'm a bit bummed about missing out on the quests, but at least I should be able to watch some videos on YouTube to see what I missed. Thanks for your efforts.
