By that I mean, are the bugs fixed and do more mods work now? The user reviews are quite negative, but it's been half a year now.

That's a really odd question. Of course it's safe, but if you are really asking are the games completely bug free, then the answer is absolutely not. Bug fixes have slowed down with the development and release of IWD:EE. There are some mods, but nowhere near as many as for the originals. Most negative user reviews revolve around the exorbitant price, the dubious 'Enhanced' title (asset-wise it's graphically inferior, and the UI is hideous), and, as you've intimated, the bugs.

Don't listen to Hickory. Most of the bugs have been taken care of by now for the Enhanced Editions. For most people, the ones that are harder to get working on modern computers are the original versions. Just take a look at this forum.

There are significantly fewer mods for the Enhanced Editions though. Hickory is right about the price though. But lucky you, the enhanced editions are on sale again today.

Didn't play the other games or any mods yet, but BG:EE is definitely worth playing.

And crumb24 doesn't know what he/she is talking about. For the original BG:EE, there is a list of 84 *approved* bugs that have still not been fixed. For BG2:EE this rises to 116 known *approved* bugs. But don't take my word for it (nor crumb24's), go and read the official forums for yourself.

And I know I've played completely through both of them at least once and have not had ANY problems. The only bug was after awhile there was two Rasaad's in Nashkel in BG1:EE. I didn't have any game breaking bugs and that was what I was trying to say.

No, what you were trying to say was 'don't listen to Hickory, because there are no bugs'. Well, you're wrong. Totally wrong. I've played through them too, and there are bugs. As I said before, it's all documented on the official forums.

Reread my original post again. See the word "most." That does not mean "there are no bugs" And in my second post I pointed out the Rasaad bug. That does not mean "there are no bugs" either. Also, you are still not posting any examples of what bugs you've run into. Specifically any "game breaking" bugs.

I like the Enhanced Editions. You obviously do not as you keep trying to steer people away from them. I'm just trying to let anyone who asks about the EE know that there are other opinions. I'm done arguing about this though, at least for now.

"Don't listen to Hickory..." That is the crux of the matter. There are bugs -- I don't need to supply my examples, the officially recognised bugs are available, as I have stated.

It has nothing to do with me liking or not liking the Enhanced editions -- I purchased TWO copies of each, that's how much I don't like them -- it has to do with truth, and the truth is that the originals are better, support far more mods, are less buggy, and the Enhanced editions are little more than overpriced commercial mods, whose added content is quite shocking on a commercial level.

Just so that you are utterly aware, I will say it again: we would not have had this conversation if you had not preceded your view with "Don't listen to Hickory..."

Fair enough. I apologize for discounting what you said and starting this. Anyway, back on topic.

There are still some bugs, but overall, the major bugs from the Enhanced Editions have been fixed. Its pretty "safe" to buy them now.,
I've played through both and beaten both, BG1 a couple of times.

There are some oddities but nothing that broke my game. I did have a couple of random crashes and couldn't get the graveyard paladin quest finished (girl and priest didn't show up) in BG2. I also had a temporary snag in the Pocket Plane where I got stuck in the first challenge, but after a few attempts it worked.

As for the UI and graphics there are pros and cons. Some of the paper-doll weapons look cooler IMO, such as the Flail of Ages having multicolored heads, and some of the quarter staves get jazzed up. However, the paper dolls are all smaller than the original ones, and thus a tad harder to see. Also, the inventory screen shows detailed thaco and damage ratings per character.

I paid $40 for both, which prompted a GOG sale for everyone else. You're welcome. :-)

Funny how that works, this being the case you can thank me for the sales on the Wing Commander, Crusader, and Tex Murphy games. :)
I have both versions and thay work fine, no crashs and no problems.
