I'm not sure but think I may have messed up! In order of events:

- Having seen another thread, I thought I'd install the BG tweaks from Gibberlings site, specifically for the XP cap remover in BG1

- I chose the bg2_tweaks file as I have EasyTutu installed.

- I then created a system restore point (just in case)

- As instructed when opening the bg2_tweaks exe file, I installed it to EasyTutu folder

- I then got an error saying "CRC failed in bg2_tweaks....\g3_sfx.ico File is broken

- Having checked, I do have a load of files created in the Easytutu/bg2_tweaks folder

- So, I went back to my restore point and windows then displayed a message saying it couldn't perform the restore because some files couldn't be accessed (it provided a code but not specifics on files - thanks MS).

Basically, I would ideally like the level cap and access to a few of the other BG2 tweaks but would prefer to do without if it creates any problems with EasyTutu version installed.

Sorry for the novel - if you've seen any of my other posts, you'll note that I am a complete novice, so if anyone can help, I'd appreciate a step-by-step "idiots" guide.

Thanks.

CRC error usually means that file is corrupted or can't be accessed.

If you have anti-virus software with on-the-fly scanning disable it and try downloading BGTweaks again.

I do have Kaspersky installed. As mentioned, I only want a few of the tweaks - is there some way of configuring the tweaks or is it a case of once installed, you have them all?

p.s. - Thanks for the quick reply - I appreciate the help

Do you have Baldur's Gate installed outside of 'program files'? If not, it will be problematic.

EDIT: Also, don't bother with "system restores" for weidu tweaks. Just re-execute the the weidu executable to remove tweaks. All those files are generally doing is replacing files, and it creates backups of everything. Safer to just use weidu again.

EDIT2: If system restore has changed the Tutu directory structure, your weidu log may now be wrong, and fixing them won't be user-friendly. What does your weidu.log say?

Hi strixo. Yes, I have Win 7 64 bit and it's installed under Program Files (x86). Thanks

I'm probably being thick but what's the weidu executable? Also, where would I find the weidu.log? < embarrassed >

The weidu executable is the *.exe associated with whichever tweaks or mods you've installed. So it might be like bg2_tweaks-v9.exe (or whatver version). When you run a weidu executable, it backs up all the files it changes in the same-named directory (i.e. ..\bg2_tweaks\. Also, weidu.log is a notepad-readable file in your root game directory.

But honestly, I'd just uninstall it all and put it in c:\games\bgtutu, or wherever outside of program files. You're opening yourself to headaches running any games from program files(x86), and BG/weidus have had many problems there too.

edit: the bg2_tweaks*.exe should be sitting in your baldur's gate tutu directory. You can run it again and again do selectively choose which tweaks to install/unistall. Same with every other weidu tweak/mod, though order you install them can be important.

If I uninstall it all and start again, will I lose my current game?

Your BG2 tweaks aren't currently installed, so you can just disable your Antivirus and run setup-bg2_tweaks.exe.

If I were you though, I would put your current game down to experience & start again with it installed in a different directory & with your Anti Virus off until you instal your mods.
Put the widescreen mod last.
Now that you have learnt a bit, you can get through the early stages fairly quickly.
As the BG2 tweaks hasn't installed, I think I'll not bother and can live with a level cap. I've checked and the Easytutu version seems to still be running ok.

What's the issue with installing games in the program files (x86) folder as it's the default option? I'm a bit concerned now as all my games (which all seem to run well) are in that folder <eek>

Thanks.

if you want you can manually extract xpcap.2da and xplevel.2da from 2da folder in bg2_tweaks and place them in your override folder to remove the exp cap.

the problem is that program files is a protected system folder in vista/7 which many of the older games don't know how to bypass so there are sometimes errors when running certain executables and such (they lack proper rights and therefore are unable to make the necessary edits which results in errors).

that's how i've understood it anyways, might be somewhat different in reality but the basic idea should stand.

Thanks all for your help - alas, I can only mark one of your posts as a solution so have randomly gone with the newest member to build up their rep.

I'll leave the games as they are as they seem to be ok but will install future titles elsewhere (and recommendations on where?).

pigdog: and recommendations on where?
c:\games works fine as well as any other drive/partition, basically anywhere but program files :)
