If you buy the Enhanced Editions here you get the original ones as well.
Unfortunately, Beamdog (the publisher of "Enhanced" Edition) made sure that the only way to get the original BG is to buy the Enhanced Edition. When you purchase BG:EE you will get a ""serial key" to download the original one.
Also disc copies of the originals are still fairly easy to find.

I saw another user ask GOG for a discount to just get the original codes. You can try doing that.

The EE versions go on sale fairly frequently. It may take a few months, but I expect they'll show up again before Spring is over (if not sooner).

If they are added for GOG connect, and if your friend doesn't mind his steam library being connected to your GOG account forever, then I suppose the answer is 'technically, yes'.
They’re for sale on eBay on discs for pretty cheap. Not sure if there’s an issue installing those from disc on a newer computer and operating system. I’d guess someone here knows, though.
Saldy I bought BG:EE from Beamdog way back when it came out, so I don't have option of the gog serial.

I'd install the disc version that I have, but I need to buy a DVD drive first :)
USB DVD drivers are pretty cheap, so is rebuying the GOG version of BG:EE whenever it goes on sale.
Overall, I'd wait for another GOG sales event versus buying a USB DVD drive just for one game.
One way is to buy the DVD's from amazon.com for about $14.00 for BG2 and the expansion. Try also e-bay (that's where I bought the collectors editions). Definitely worth the time and money for this fabulous classic! It is better than EE, save for the Bag of Holding from the Hexxat quest, but even that item is definitely not needed.

E.g. here: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_9_8?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=baldur%27s+gate+2&sprefix=baldur%27s%2Caps%2C232&crid=180377HF3P01F

Or search for: baldur's gate 4-in-1 box set

See my walkthroughs which include installation steps and a few basic modding tips (page 4):

http://www.scribd.com/doc/71232387/Baldur-s-Gate-2-Walkthrough-for-SoA-ToB-Cleric-Ranger

:::---:::---:::---:::
The basic Baldur's Gate 2 installation set-up is thus:

*Install Shadows of Amn and then Throne of Bhaal; can buy from ebay or Amazon: Baldur's Gate - 4 in 1 Box Set Compilation ($13-$14)

*Install Throne of Bhaal patch 26498 (BGII-ThroneofBhaal_Patch_26498_ENGLISH), e.g. from here:
http://gibberlings3.net/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=697

*Install BG2_fixpack-v9 or newer (e.g. BG2 Fixpack v10): http://www.gibberlings3.net/bg2fixpack/

*Optional but recommended: Install BG2_Tweaks-v14 (or newer) to BGII - SoA folder: http://www.gibberlings3.net/bg2tweaks/
Or the newest version of The Tweaks Anthology: http://gibberlings3.net/tweaks/

Only these components were installed from Cosmetic, Content, and Convenience sections:
- Hit Points (hp's) maximum for all creatures; max hp's on level-up
- Remove max cap for number of spells learned; 100% success rate for spell learning
- Unlimited Strongholds but do "only" the Ranger, Cleric, Fighter, Paladin, Druid and Mage Strongholds
- Do not add containers and do not increase the stack size of items
- Bonus Merchants (Deidre and Joluv)

*Optional: Install 1ppv4.1.0-rel: un-rar into BG2 folder then run setup-1pp.exe: http://www.shsforums.net/files/file/1006-1ppv410/ file not broken
*[Or the older version: 1pp_v2.70_windows; and then install 1pp_avatars_v3: un-rar into BG2 folder then run setup-1pp_avatars.exe]

*[Very optional: un-rar 1pp_hq_music_II_120 for higher quality music for SoA/ToB; run setup-1pp_hq_music_II.exe then use the Converter]

*Install JaheiraRomanceAndHarpersPlotPatchV21: http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/Jaheira.php

*Optional: then install widescreen-v3.05 or newer (optional; 800x600 is still great!): http://www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/

:::---:::---:::---:::
The basic Baldur's Gate 1 (original) installation set-up is thus:

*Install Baldur's Gate (BG1) (can buy the DVD's on Amazon.com, or original CD-ROM's from E-bay.com)
*Install Tales of the Sword Coast
*Install Tales of the Sword Coast patch BGTalesUS5512.exe from sorcerers.net/Games/BG/index_misc.php

Optional: do a very brief test play of the game (currently running Windows 8.1 and it has no problem running BG1 vanilla); make a back-up copy of the installation

*Then install BG1FixPack11.exe from baldurdash.org/BG1/bg1fixes.html

*Optional: BG1 Unfinished Business from pocketplane.net: installed all except for Permanent Corpses; Flaming Fist Mercenary Reinforcements

*Optional: Baldur's Gate Mini Quests and Encounters v13 (BGQE) from Gibberlings3.net: installed all

*Then install bg1tweaks-v5.exe from Gibberlings3.net; these conveniences were installed:
- cosmetic changes such as remove helmets
- max hp on level-up and for all creatures
- 100% spell learning and no cap
- ammo stacking to 40 only; no other increased stacking or bags of holding or such

Lastly install the widescreen mod (very optional, 800x600 still looks great!):
*Widescreen mod from gibberlings3.net/widescreen/ Extract to game folder, run SETUP-WIDESCREEN.exe; set to 800x600, yes to saves
*BG1 interface improvement from http://athkatla.cob-bg.pl/viewtopic.php?t=3257 Extract to game folder, run Setup-TWM_GUI.exe
Optional: improved GUI for 1280x720 specifically: http://www.shsforums.net/topic/58704-gui-in-1280-x-720/ Must set Widescreen to
1280x720 before installing the improved GUI for 1280x720

Have fun!
