Hi,
I have both the old vanilla Baldur's Gate series (unpatched and not GOG.com) and GOG.com version.
Recently, I played the GOG.com modded with BGT-WeiDu that combines two games into one plus tweaks, fixpacks, and unfinished bussiness (it's my first time using these mods).

Not sure if I'm doing it wrong, unlucky, or just didn't notice the change. But is BGT+mods actually harder than vanilla?
I still have the old vanilla version on my laptop. Somehow, I could finish the bandit camp on BG1 vanilla easier than BGT version. Both using Core AD&D difficulty. Same canonical party (imoen, minsc dynaheir, jaheira khalid). Both are around level 3-4. Though different main char (BGT : Archer, BG1 vanilla : Fighter/Thief).

Also, does BG2 nerfs applies on BGT version of BG1?
BGT uses the BG 2 engine, so you're not actually playing with BG 1 rules, but with BG 2 ones, including spells and everything else.
It shouldn't make that much difference, unless you've somehow installed a difficulty mod.
@ foxthirteeh - If all you have with BGT is the BG2 Fixpack, BG1 Unfinished Business and some BG2 Tweaks components (hopefully installed in this order) then the difficulty level should be the same. Just avoid tactical mods like Sword Coast Strategems. The different rule set may take a bit to adjust to, though.
Well it'll be a bit harder because of how the weapon proficiencies are split up in BG2, but that's about it. BG1 was designed for only about 8 proficiencies rather than 20, so your weapon selection will be a bit narrower, which can make stuff trickier in the early stages. Other than than that "vanilla" BGT ought to be pretty similar.
Thanks. Perhaps BG2 engine was the cause, or maybe I'm not that tactically-smart anymore in playing this game.

Does installation order matters? (I followed the instruction from GOG.com forum sticky by the way). I have no other mods installed, only widescreen and bigger fonts.

Just a quick question, does Archer (Ranger) levels up slower than Fighters? Dsimpson guide on GameFAQ said so.

Depends, but for the best effect you want fixpacks first (to correct basic game problems), then quest mods (like UB), and finally tweaks (since they won't work on stuff added after them). The Widescreen and fonts mods are outside this and can be done last. pcamagna posted an install order thread over on the IWD forum you might want to look at since he knows a *lot* more about this than I.

Yes installation order does matter, as certain mods can modify the same files and conflict, or if you want certain changes to be applied to mod content as well.
The install order from the sticky should be fine though.

And yes, rangers level more slowly than fighters. For example, to get to 2nd level, fighters need 2000 xp, rangers and paladins (they share the same xp table) need 2250.
In Vanilla BG it wouldn't matter much, since you'd end up at level 7 either way. With TotSC, I think Fighters can get to lvl 8, but not rangers/paladins.

In BGT you have no xp cap by default however, so I think both fighters and rangers will end up at level 8 if you do everything in the game with a 6-member party, given that there is a limited amount of xp.
Thanks everybody for the helpful posts!
Yeah, I realise my Archer is one level behind most of his teammates but it's fine because Archer is cool B-)
