Playing Baldur's Gate 1 on BG2 engine (BGT). I just started a new game, and my character is a Wild Mage. Got to the part where Imoen rejoins, just before you meet Xzar and Montaron. A bear attacked, and my mage cast Magic Missile and had a wild surge... and gated in a demon! I knew wild surges were sometimes powerful, but holy cow, what a way to bow out! Lol,
And so you discover why wild mages are shunned :D

A wild surge transformed my male wildmage into a female once and also became weirdly colored. Roleplaying a wild mage is awesome.

Yikes! Was the change permanent? My mage is male, and I don't want him running around in a dress all game... :D

Well, he's a mage... He's supposed to be in dress :)

Don't sell the Belt of Gender, just in case.

Yep, there is that. I just hope he likes the underwear. :)

Good point. I never thought of that.

I never thought of that either.. (I play a BGT game thou)
Wild Mages are fun. I've played on in the pen and paper game, and turned myself into an Dragon once while trying to cast a fireball spell. I still haven't figured out how to polymorph back.

Why would you ever wanna change back? :p

I dunno if you know this, but things rightfully fear a dragon. They hardly fear an Evoker in black robes.

True, but dragons are also awesome. Why do you care that the local peasants fear you when you can sweep their village away with your tail? :p

(And on your first post, why can't you just use a polymorph spell again?)

Because I don't know that spell. I was a Wild Mage in the PNP version of the game, and I only knew Combat spells. I was basically an Evoker. And I care. I'm supposed to be neutral xD Not an Evil Blue Dragon.

I don´t think you had protection from evil at this point.
Did the demon kill you before or after killing the bear?

So casting fireballs can make you a dragon?
Be happy you did not cast a domination or stun spell.
You might be a mind flayer by now.

Um, no PFE... the only spells I had (if I remember correctly) were Reckless Dweomer, Magic Missile and Find Familiar -- didn't want to wait for a scroll of FF.

The demon didn't go for the bear -- we were stuck between both. :D
