DCC74: How does one go about finding out the background stats/info on the game's enemies? Interesting stuff.
avatar
Hickory: By looking at their creature files with an editor like Near Infinity. You can also use Sword Coast Keeper or Shadowkeeper, but you get less info from those.
Alternatively, if you are playing Baldur's Gate 2, TuTu, Trilogy, or any Enhanced Edtion, you can enable cheats and cheat keys and Ctrl-Q the creature into your party. Now that the enemy is in your party, you can view its stats and inventory. Note that such creatures may still be hostile even in your party, and most creatures don't have portraits.

Interestingly enough, some invincible characters in Baldur's Gate 2 wear Imoen's Belt.

That sounds like a fun thing to try. Thanks for the tip.

Engerek01: I dared to start the game again with the BGT mods (so playing BG1 with BG2 engine). I had never played Durlag's Tower before so it was one of the first places i entered as soon as it appeared on the map. It was super hard. After many deaths and reloads, i managed to cleanse the tower. It was very satisfying.

But there is a small problem now. The rest of the game became super easy after leveling up like crazy and with the stuff i found there. I cleaned Larswood, Peldvale and Bandit Camp like i was doing a trip in forest. Almost nothing was able to cause me any challenge. I remember those bandits were a serious problem in my earlier playthroughs.

I havent finished the game yet but i felt like i should warn others. Or am I wrong? My characters became level 8.

Tnx.
Engin.
Hmm, at this point you could, if you wanted to, simply adjust the Gameplay setting to harder. That's rather quick and easy to do, and it solves the problem. :)

What I am wondering, is when will there be new Baldurs gate add-ons and additional quests? They sure have the players out there willing and ready to immediately purchase add-ons. It is such a shame to see a good game and engine "go to waste" so to speak, when the game company fails to spend a couple hundred thousand on programmers to make a BG III or even a few add-ons, when the returns are basically guaranteed to be 4 to 5 times that investment.

If BioWare is unsure about how such an investment would turn out, then BioWare should see if Larian Studios would do the work. Of course Larian would put up all the funding and programming work, and of course BioWare would have to get a percentage of he profits because it does own the rights to Baldurs gate. But still, if Larian's programmers came in it is certain they could create some awesome add-ons that would bring in good money to both Larian and BioWare.

There is nothing worse than seeing an awesome game like Baldurs Gate, knowing that its age guarantees it's name is well known, just sit there and do nothing other than generate a little cash from the $10 or $20 people are still paying for the original game once in a while. Larian's programmers are awesome, and I bet they could come in and create some excellent programming tools that would allow them to create a wonderful new BG add-on every month. Let BG's faithful gamers download these new add-ons for $20.00 each month, and I bet there would be 25,000 downloads per month. That translates into $500,000 a month in downloads for the BG add-on each month. Compare that to a $250,000 investment in programmers, they will make their money back the first month, then every month after that is more cash coming in. That's my idea, and i think it's a much better idea than what they are doing now with the rights to Baldurs gate, by just letting it sit there.

If anyone out there agrees, take a moment to write Larian and BioWare asking them to collaborate on some new Baldurs Gate add-ons. There are gamers with plenty of money to spend $20.00 per months on a new add-on each month. :)

So are these castles used in D&D type games or do you just look at them?

Please tell me that was sarcasm. In case it wasn't, they're collectibles... and spam.

odd careers are interesting to me and making toy castles is odd. I just assumed there might have been a good market for table top gamers here and thats why he spammed. But for collectibles... i have no idea what his post was for then it was very strange so I'm going to guess some type of drug. Friday Highday.
I take back what i said earlier to some degree. I just met Aec'letec and damn. That was the toughest fight I had in any game. That demon kept killing my party with his death gaze. I was still able to beat him without loosing anyone after my 6th or 7th attempt but it was very hard.

A fun time is when you are assaulting Irenicus in Spellhold and one of the prisoners actually nails him with a Hold Person.

That is a tough one, but it's fun for testing some various strategies. Some things I have found that worked well are any combination of the following:

--monster summoning
--potions of magic blocking (or whichever one makes your saves automatic, resists death gaze)
--potions of invulnerability (+5 saves to resist death gaze)
--going invisible and backstabbing, then running back upstairs, repeat (boots of speed or haste helps here)
--equipping everyone with poison missiles, firing away, and letting those cultists' HP's tick away while you run back upstairs to regroup

Anyone know if 'mirror eyes' potions work against the death gaze? I don't think I have tried that one.

Yes. PoME gives immunity to gaze projectiles and petrification.
Finally finished BG1 in Trilogy with all possible guests finished. I forgot how much time it takes. Each of my characters were around 250K experience. Even tho I was powerful, Sarevok still decimated my party a few times. I mean I won but lost 3-4 other members. Especially with that Flesh2Stone spell.

It didnt automatically start Baldur's Gate 2. I had to go all that way back and talk to the duke. I liked the added material afterwards.

For some reason I had a feeling my equipment and money would transfer to BG2. I had around 300K gold. Nothing transfered. I was naked from mother :))

Tho the other characters were transferred perfectly. Just as I developed them. That was very neat.

When you consider that your party has been captured and tortured, it makes perfect sense that nothing transfers. Though if you had certain items in your inventory at the end of BG1 you will have the chance to reclaim 2 items of gear and 1 miscellaneous item in BG2, all in Irenicus' Dungeon.

You are right. I started BG2 plenty of times. However, when i read about golden pantaloons transfer when it is in your inventory, I assumed that rest could be transfered too. Its no problem tho. My party is already powerfull enough.

ps. I found the golden pantaloons in the first room.
