I started playing Baldur's Gate following the ethos described in the Complete Paladin's Handbook for the AD&D 2nd edition and I'm making a series of videos about how it works out. SPOILER: It's very strict. :)

Here's a challenge:

Try to become a fallen paladin without violating the ethos described in the Complete Paladin's Handbook.

I never completed BG1 and I never played BG2, but if there is such a thing in the original version of BG2 as a fallen paladin, and I feel like it's the right thing to do in the situation according to my ethos, I might even do it.

And thanks for the suggestion, sounds really intriguing.

Just let one of your companions can carry your magical items and gold then you won't have any problems.

No, the Complete Paladin's Handbook explicitely states that you can't do this.

PS. Or if you mean the common party magical items, of course I won't give them the paladin. But the paladin's magic items always count towards her limit, even if they're at someone else.

For those of us who don't know the handbook like the back of our hand, what does this mean in practice in Baldur's Gate?

For instance, in the video you mention 10 magical items. Is this magical items of all kinds throughout the party?

Easy!

(Spoiler) at the end of BG2, when you are in the Hell (or Bhaal's realm) facing to Sarevok, there is a single option in the dialogue that turn your paladin to fallen. I didn't notice that my paladin was already fallen until very late on the expansion.
Part 2 is up:

I promise, I explain everything in the videos. Part 3 will be all about wealth: budgetary and magic item limits. I decided early on that I won't just upload a longplay, I will talk about issues mentioned in the Complete Paladin's Handbook and show examples for it in the video game.

PS. Also, to answer your specific question: It is only for the paladin, but it includes magic items she lends to other party members.

nice, but the fun parts are going to be when you beat the game with these restrictions.... right? like tactics you have to use to win because you don't have a lot of plat l3wtz.

Not to speak of the fact that the paladin has to charge forward into battle and attack the strongest opponent. So, I'm not sure how long I'll be able to survive. I'll have to choose very carefully what information my paladin should get. It's better to avoid areas where she would have to do a suicide attack.

The next episode is up, where she tells the truth to the attackers in Candlekeep:

i suggest recruiting a strong party then have your "paladin" stand in the back with a sling and let real heroes save the world.
While these "paladins" are messing around with morals there are innocent people being slain by bhaal spawn!!!

Absolutely. Can't argue with this... ^

Pretty sure the Inquisitor's magic-murdering skills, plus the +6 Carsomyr, will be all the l3wtz you need. Throw in some enchanted plate, and maybe something to keep you from getting snared, and you shouldn't really feel the sting of not being allowed to hoard items.

For extra fun, group with only Kheldorn and Saerileth, and the Three Holy Musketeers can go drag down an evil god.

Is it allowed to bring Viconia along? If not, why not?

In BG2, is it allowed to free Viconia? If not, why not?
