I usually try to get at least a total of 90 so as to be able to put 15 in each stat, I then store that and throw the dice another couple of times, if I don't get higher points I use the stored dice. Only then do I begin to muck around with how many points go where. Charisma is very seldom below 14, more often than not I set it to 18 for the main character, sometimes 16 if I may need those points somewhere else.

Am I weird?

Pretty much exactly what I do, except I tend to put my Cha around 10 for most characters.

The current game I am playing I actually when kinda nutty with rerolling, just to see how high I could roll legitimately. I think I spent about 3 or 4 days just rerolling my gnome cleric/illusionist while watching TV (so, probably a good 8 hours of rolling, when it is all added up). I got about a dozen stats in the 94-95 range, no 96s, but I DID finally get a 97 point total (which is rather insane). So, his stats are 18 Str, 18 Dex, 16 Con, 19 Int, 17 Wis, 9 Cha. Pretty munchkiny, but pretty awesome for a legit roll. It doesn't beat the 99 point total I got while rolling my Cavalier a couple years back, but paladins are cheating cheaters when it comes to getting good rolls (only a cleric/ranger has higher pre-requisites).
While not cheating, per se, she certainly was guilty of poor form in that sort a setting. Unless I was sleeping with her (or had plans to try), I would probably boot her from the game ;).
Definitely not. Her girlfriend was much nicer though...

vbigiani: Or, even better, enable cheats and use ctrl-8 to give yourself maxed out stats.
Besides, Goger's strength is in red, so it was magically enhanced (possibly via the Gauntlets of Ogre Power).
At the risk of sounding noobish. How did you enable cheats?
See http://iesdp.gibberlings3.net/appendices/clua/bg1.htm (and http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showtopic=13834 if you use Vista or 7 ).

@Miaghstir: That's what I do as well, I'd probably spend a good hour rolling the stats. :)

@Krypsyn: LOL that is awesome. Must be doing lots of a$$ kicking (magically of course) right now...

Also, while in-game, I save the game before levelling up my characters. Then level them up trying to get the max hit points available for that class (10hp for fighter, 8hp for cleric, 6hp thief and 4 for mage) plus the constitution bonus. If I don't get it, I reload until I do eventually. It kinda slows the gameplay down but they do count! (at least I believe so....)

Lower the difficulty slider when you level up to get max HP (Easy and Normal give max HP on level-up, while Core and harder roll for HP). I play with TuTu, but I am 90% sure it works the same in the normal BG1 game.
Isn't this possible in BG2 only?
You mean the lowering difficulty slider to make your HP rolls be max? It very well might be. I know it works fine with TuTu, but that is essentially BG2. That is why I said I was only 90% sure, because it has been so long since I played vanilla BG1.

I do have a vivid memory of rerolling my first character's HP over and over right outside High Hedge (I got the game in 1999, so it would have been vanilla). But, I just thought that must have been before I figured out the difficulty slider trick, or something. Man, I remember that character, a mage/fighter/thief; tri-classes are such a pain, never again (unless I plan to solo the game, or something).
I will try it next time someone levels up. ;)
If it works... well... then i wasted quite a bunch of time rerolling for high HP... :D

Anyone else who can't bring him/herself to lower the character's intelligence below 14? Or any stat below 8, for that matter? Apparently I somehow identify with my character and my ego is just too big >_>

Well, LordCinnamon, I am not as hung up on the Int thing, but I think I am worse on Con. I always want to max out my character's bonus HP (really bugs me when my main character dies, not just the 'game over', but also the stink of failure :P). In general though, I don't like stats under 8 either. Incurring negatives during the creation of my virtual persona never sits well for me. I think you are right, it is definitely an ego thing.

With the Cavalier I made a couple years ago, I used Int as a dump stat, of sorts. Really, what OTHER stat can you give up on a paladin? I remember my decision too: should I go with 18 Cha and 9 Int, or 17 Cha, 10 Int? Screw it, I am a Lawful Stupid Paladin, the answer is obvious!
Reminds me of Neverwinter Nights, where a char with 9 or less Int wasn't able to speak properly and the text was all half-orc-like... :P
