Hello! I recently got Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, and started off by playing the tutorial. That where I ran into this problem: Whenever I press 'rest', my game shows a cutscene, which seems to cause my entire game to crash. It makes a kind of crackly sound, then I get an error, and it returns me to my desktop. I've also noticed that this occasionally happens during the 'beamdog intro' in the beginning of the game (about 50 percent of the time), as opposed to the 100 percent crash-rate when I press 'rest'.

I've tested it in the wild and at an inn, and it makes no difference. Always crashes.

I don't have a single mod installed, so it can't be a conflict. I'm quite lost on what I should do.

Thank you

Okay! So I fixed it! First of all I can't figure out how to uninstall the game, maybe I'm just dumb but I can't for the life of me figure it out. However, in my desperation I thought hard about what had changed since getting to Baldur's Gate. While completing Dorn's quest and killing Simmeon, I received the Elven Chain Mail, which as it turns out, doesn't play nice with my Shadow Keepered Bag Of Holding. Once in the bag it crashes the game when I sleep, once out I'm dandy. Alduin doesn't have that effect, just the chain mail. Go figure. Now I feel smart, hooray!

I hope this is the solution

DollString's problem seems a little different since about half the time he's also crashing at the Beamdog logo. No saved games have been loaded at that point, so I doubt an item conflict could be causing that crash.

Dollstring, I'd recommend uninstalling/reinstalling the game.

In Windows 7: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program
In Windows 10: Start > Settings > System > Apps & Features

Before reinstalling, make sure you update your graphics drivers (direct from nvidia.com, amd.com, or intel.com, as applicable).

Also, if you installed the game via GOG Galaxy, try the standalone installer instead. Pull up BG:EE in your GOG library from the website (click your name at the top of this page), then click More > Classic Installers. Download both parts to the same folder, then run the executable file (you don't need to do anything with the .bin file).

The enhanced editions are known to have issues with certain sound hardware and drivers, especially the "new" Beamdog cut scenes. Numerous bug reports were filed in the past and ALL dismissed, including several of my own. Beamdog do not acknowledge this issue, but I assure you it exists... to this day. It is a Beamdog issue, not an issue with your sound card or driver (updating them will not help). To this day I get crackling (100%) with the "new" cut scenes. I'm not as unfortunate as you, in that I don't get the crashes, but the sound is absolutely atrocious. You will get people (and Beamdog) that say there is no sound issue because it does not happen on their system, but the issue is real and exists, and always has.
Ahh, so it's a known issue. I figured it had to do with the graphics, since it only happens during the cutscenes, and the game makes some really strange sounds (almost like static on a TV) before crashing.

I reinstalled the game, and I updated my Intel Driver. None of it helped. If I click ESC during the cutscenes (and it skips them), then it won't crash, but I feel like i'd be missing certain aspects of the game if I did that for every single 'movie'.

I appreciate the honesty, by the way. It's nice to know that my computer isn't just acting up, and that it's a known issue. I only wish there was a solution.
If it's specifically with the new cutscene files themselves, you can try using the Classic Movies mod, which replaces Beamdog's "enhanced" cutscene movies with the original ones:
https://github.com/Sampsca/BGEE-Classic-Movies

(And a lot of people -- myself included -- greatly prefer the classic movies, so you could be solving two problems in one go with this!)

Seeing as Beamdog refuse to acknowledge this issue there never will be a permanent solution. It might be an idea to mark the question as answered.
