Hi, guys, my games (both BGEE and BG2EE) freeze every time when I try to import a character or after clicking "done" after choosing the gender at character creation. The game is raw without any patches, mods or custom portraits (since some people suggest this might be a portrait problem), and I'm running it on Windows XP SP3.

I doubt it to be a SPEC problem 'cuz for once, only once, I mysteriously successfully got pass the gender selection (then I went back and import a pre-set character instead to save time) and started a game, and everything looked fine. The opening was played, the CHARNAME was walking around in Candle Keep just as he did in the classic version.

Anybody shares similar situations?

Where do your import characters come from?

Sorry for replying so late... I'm new to gog and I didn't know that new reply in my post wouldn't get prompted...

Well, actually, the game freezes the moment I click "import -> from character file", before I can really choose from where to import.

Make sure you have a 'Characters' folder in both

I tried what you say, but pity that it doesn't work.

And considering that I for (only) once actually imported a character successfully, I would guess that maybe it's not about the folders.
The problem is solved (for now).

My guess is that my machine supporting only OpenGL 1.4 causes the problem, since turning on the last option in the graphic settings-which uses DirectDraw for rendering-"seems" to solve the problem for me.
