No matter what conversation option I choose, it always brings up the error message [NO VALID REPLIES OR LINKS].

Because of this error I cannot continue with this quest.

Does anyone know a good workaround?

Uninstall the buggy edition and install the proper ones?
I agree with Pagaea666; uninstall the buggy edition and play with one that works.

Pangaea666: Uninstall the buggy edition and install the proper ones?
As far as I know, I have the latest version [2.1.63.2 updated April 16th 2016].

Do I have to rollback to the previous version? If I reinstall the game, would I be able to play my saved files?

The problem is that the enhanced edition is riddled with bugs, more so since the v2 patch, but it is still riddled with bugs. Rolling back may not be as easy as it sounds, since earlier versions are no longer made available. I don't know what the situation with Galaxy is, because I don't use it.

I've played Baldur's Gate II at least 15 times with various editions and bugfixes and just no. There's no version of Baldur's Gate II that isn't buggy.

My approach to resolving buggy quests in BGII has always been firing up a save game editor and manually setting what variables need to be set... but I'm not sure if there's an updated save game editor for the EE yet, nor do I know the variables involved in that quest...

It's not a variable, nor a quest issue. The issue is that the dialog is broken. B.R.O.K.E.N. No amount of editing of saved games will fix that.

Do you have a save before this dialog?

EE Keeper 1.0.3.4.zip 2016-04-24

EE Keeper works perfectly. I am using EE Keeper 1.0.3.2 and all works fine.

If the variable check is done then it could be pretty easy:

Variable that says conversation is not done yet = proceed to broken conversation
Variable that says conversation is already done is set = ok, continue with next non-broken conversation

Problem if it breaks before it checks that variable. Suppose you could just cheat to kill the NPC and set whatever quest variables you need to proceed.

Editing quest variables to fix broken conversations is a thing I remember having to do a bit too many times in Baldur's Gate II over the years... sadly not in Trademeet so I don't know how to fix that particular quest.

Maybe upload the save game OP?

Variables do *not* break conversation dialogs. Variables are sometimes set in dialogs, and read in dialogs, but they do not break them. If a variable is set or not, the dialog continues to branch. The branch here is broken. It is not a variable thing.

You don't know, what are you talking. If the variables included in the replicas selection conditions, easily to get a similar result. In this case you maybe right, but hard to say without save.

Yes, I do. This error is unique to the Enhanced edition. There are no variables set or read for this dialog branch. The trigger for this particular dialog option (Enhanced edition) is now dependent upon the Shaman class, and is broken, leading to the error.

Yes, this branch looks like broken for the shaman (without Minsc or Jaheira in party, perhaps).
