Hey everybody,

I installed BG1 (the original game) with the two mods "Dark Side of the Sword Coast" and "Unfinished Business".
When I start the game or load a saved game, there is no ambient music in the game: If I enter a inn, there is no music played for example (the ambient sound effects are working normal). The only way to get music is to press the "q"-key - after the game quicksaves, the music starts playing. Only the battle music plays automatically when a battle occurs - but after the battle, there is no music again.
Changing the location with the world map doesn't work either.
Now I don't remember such a strange issue from the game, can anybody help me out here? I'm playing on Vista 64.

Thank you

EDIT: another thing: If I manage to start the music playing after hitting "q", the music stops playing again if I save a game manually... very strange. Only the quicksave-button seems to start the music.

Hang on a minute... isn't DSotSC only compatible with BGT?
As far as I know, no. I already played the game with the mod years ago without BGT.

Ok, it seems there are two versions. As for your music not playing, do you get the same issue without mods installed? The logical course of action, to pinpoint or rule out mods, would be to start from fresh, install one mod at a time and log if/when the issue rears it's head.
Ok, now I've tried to install the game (plus TotSC) fresh and proper from my DVD (instead of the installer from GOG) - same problem here: Music won't play until I press q. One out of ten times, it plays automatically. Even battle music doesn't start sometimes when enemies attack. To be sure, I've tried both installations on two different computers - one with Vista 64, the other with Win 7. I find that very strange, I can't remember such an issue. May this be a cpu-related speed-problem?
Can anybody help me here: If you go into the Inn right at the beginning of the game, is there music played automatically and always when you enter?

No. Music in BG is not an 'always on' thing. It's situational and semi-random. The ambient sounds will always play, but not the music.

I know that in BG 2 the music is indeed semi-random, but in BG 1 it should be on an endless loop. But as you confirm that the Inn-theme doesn't start playing every time, I guess it's not only me having this situation. Thanks.

Wolfram_von_Thal: but in BG 1 it should be on an endless loop.
No, it isn't. I am going to quote myself from an earlier post:

The music in Baldur's Gate is handled by 'song' lists, with each area (not triggers, like crossing the bridge) having:

Day Song
Night Song
Victory Song
Battle Song
Defeat Song
Ambient Day (1)
Ambient Day (2)
Ambient Night (1)
Ambient Night (2)

The music (or song) handling is hard coded, but can be manipulated via the song lists (*.mus files). So yes, the music is random as far as the song lists make them random, meaning the music is not constant.
It is? Hmmm...Could it be that I've got the impression of an "endless loop" just because I save very often with "q" (and because everytime I press "q", the music starts again from beginning)?
Thank you for your help.

I have never tested this hypothesis, but it's entirely feasible. In fact the more I think of it, the more it seems likely given your experiences with this.
