I have just rolled a half-elf ranger/ cleric multi-class, there was not a choice for two-weapon fighting or dual wield. Is this an option that comes available as the PC gains levels?

Using vanilla BG1 - GOG version, no mods.

Thank you.

There is no two-weapon fighting in vanilla Baldur's Gate. That is only available in BG2, or if you play BG1 in the BG2 engine via BGT or TuTu.

Your Ranger/Cleric is also restricted to Blunt, Spiked and Missile weapons (because of the Cleric class); no specific weapon specialities in BG1 either. You may wear any armour and still cast divine spells, but your Ranger stealth is disabled while wearing armour.

I thought BG1 followed the D&D 2E rules? In PnP games, Fighters and Rogues get a -2/-4 toHIt penalty if they fight with 2 weapons. But that is modified by your Dex bonus, so it is possible to have no penalty. Rangers can use two weapons without any penalty. The only thing is that the off-hand weapon has to be smaller than the main weapon.

They didn't implement this in BG1?

No. Baldur's Gate 2E rules are customised , not pure P&P. The Infinity Engine wasn't mature enough when BG1 was born.
OK, yeah I see now. The weapon slots in the character screen just doesn't even let you do it.
