k4kuz0: I would like to quickly add one thing (My PC stats) just to make sure that I'm not playing the game as some overpowered monster hero. I really want to experience the game, and I'd hate to put in 50 hours and then realise that I've been playing the game on 'super easy' mode.

my PC:
Strength: 18/27
Dexterity: 18
Constitution: 17
Intelligence: 9
Wisdom: 15
Charisma: 3
That's an 80 role. Not overpowered, by any means, but it's a good role... I mean a good roll. Remember that Tarnesh is just a mage, with very little health, so your bruiser with 18/27 strength, if he connects, is going to mince Tarnesh up pretty thoroughly. The trick with Tarnesh is not to let him hit you first with his Magic Missiles, because you get no save against them, and they DO hurt badly at that stage. Usually, your party are pretty lousy at connecting hits at this stage, that's another reason why Tarnesh is considered hard -- Magic Missiles cannot miss.

EDIT: Tried once more for posterity, the guard got a critical hit and he died almost instantaneously again. Apparently my guards graduated from a different academy yours BlueMooner!! I'm wondering if I have inadvertently installed a mod that changes the guards....
Post your WeiDU log here.

Hickory: Post your WeiDU log here.
Ok so the roll is nothing that will make the game far too easy I guess? I suppose I have a strong PC, and I chose fighter because I was told that it is a good class for newbies.

I believe this is the WeiDU log:

I see nothing in there that could unbalance the game, at least regarding the Tarnesh fight. I think your party is just more than capable of dealing with Tarnesh. As I said earlier, to say that Tarnesh is (one of) the hardest battles in the game is just nonsense. I tend to role-play BG1 with just my character and Imoen, and we very rarely (we do, but rarely) fall to Tarnesh.

Edit for typo: you're >> your.

With 18s in all your physical stats you have a VERY powerful fighter. As you continue you'll see why fighters are good choices for newbies (IMO). Don't worry, you haven't broken the game or anything. : )

Hickory and I may disagree over the difficulty of Tarnesh, but we also have different playstyles. If anything, perhaps I've overstressed his challenge rating.

Don't sweat too much about making mistakes with your character. We all do that in every game; it's normal. Just be glad you've overcome the first hurdle of wandering alone and now (assuming you pick up J and K), will have a full group. Where you go is up to you, though your teammates will urge you to head to Nashkel. Enjoy the story, explore the world, and have fun!
Yeah, I believe you were just lucky. It happens with spell casters a lot. Some time you can't beat them no matter how hard you try and other time you score lucky hit at the start of the fight, interupt some important spell and the fight is over very soon.
In your log there is certainly nothing that would screw your game and make it too easy. No thing you installed affects game balance.
Greetings,

I've received BG / BG 2 as a gift from a very kind-hearted person, and after I'm done with NWN 1 campaigns (restarted as a dwarf monk on hardest diffic.) I plan on embarking on what seems to be an amazing journey with the games that started them all.

I never played of these games so far, so I'm a complete newbie when it comes to BG series.

I hope that my NWN experience will help me understand at least with some aspects of the game. I read carefully this thread (even when the heat was high! :P), and although there are spoiler elements, I think it's okay when looking through some particular perspective.

Anyway, just dropped by to say thank you all for your invaluable help (how unlikely you may think it is) and insights!

Have a very pleasant evening.

Only in a very general sense. The rule sets between the BG and NWN games are very different, and creating and advancing your character wirks completely differently in the BG series than it does in NWN. So when the time comes, if you have any issues/questions, I highly recommend creating a thread here and asking for help. You'll get lots of advice. Meanwhile, enjoy NWN. :)
