The enhanced version honestly sucks. At least for hardcore old-timers. There are many
cinematics that were cut-off, like the resting outside/resting at inns. Others, got their
animation removed, thus loosing motion and gore (like sarevok murdering one of the
bhaalspawn in the beginning). They were practically cartoonified. More xp, which means some
additional level ups (depending on your class' xp progression). All classes from BG2 got in
the first enhanced edition of BG1, with the addition of 3 arguably useless npcs, and a new kit,
the blackguard. Some bug corrections, still not enough, a lot of NEW BUGS, see certain forums
for details, some restored content that was locked up/abandoned before original release,
and of course, ability to play in modern systems with little trouble.
Here in GoG you can buy the originals. Tweaked for better performance and compatibility with
modern systems ALREADY. Plus, in our wondrous site, there is also a description for choosing
and istalling mods, to manually alter your bought games into a merged form, similar in many
things to the Enhanced Edition. If you are a D&D fan, a gamer who enjoys the original experience
over the crappy-but flashy remake, you hate overpowering gameplay to the point of ridicule
(like the new spells and class kits of BG2 being incorporated in BG1), and you want to reward the
site of GoG for all their hard work and dedication to us, you will want to buy the originals listed
here.
Why the originals are better? Because they are more polished, some of their errors and bugs work
towards your own benefit if you exploit them, their artwork is better (despite the EE came out
recently), they are more balanced, xp is as much as you will need (AD&D rules are as they should
be, and you can even lower or make them more difficult), the data that was ommited is nothing
special or big, and last but not least, importing to 2 a character after a 1 playthrough, you still can
choose an appropriate kit for that class, dual etc. You can even use the multiplayer to create
and manipulate and entire party of your own creation, and some claim that being exploited
results into item transfers for your main from 1 to 2!
