I have already installed the Nvidia fix from spellhold studios. This dealt with the black box issue, however, when I load a game, I end up seeing a constant flickering of green around character portraits(This does not occur in windowed mode) and am unable to utilize the mouse to scroll through environments(when I loaded the mission pack save). Also, when I attempted to generate a new character, the name filled itself in as 88888888888888888888.
Should I try redownloading? Thanks.

BTW I've got an 8800 GTS 320 MB as of this posting on WinXP 32-bit with Nvidia's 195.62 drivers(

Those are old nvidia drivers have you tried updating them?
In the options, is there a setting for software or hardware transparency? I know the later games had it but I'm not sure where it started. Try setting it to software mode
Hi,

I remember having the same problem a while ago, when I reinstalled the game from the CDs. Turning off hardware acceleration solved the issue. Go to My computer/Properties, find the performance tab and put the hardware acceleration slider to the leftmost value. You'll have to put it back to its original values for recent games though.
Upon trying to update my drivers, I am no longer experiencing uncontrollable mouse movement or flickering, thank you.
I recently upgraded to Window's 10 and now Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 do not function properly, They launch just fine but once in the game the mouse pointer flickers and is impossible to control. Makes the game unplayable. I have tried the recommended fixes in the forum without success and would welcome any suggestions.

I really want to try the enhanced edition of the games but do not want to purchase them if they will not work correctly.

Why did you necro a five year old thread? Please make a new one, and make it a question of your own, since the answer is not in this one.
I have a MacBook Air with a track pad, hence no right button!! Do I need an external mouse for Baldur's gate to work??
