Yes, you'll have to pay $20 for it. The Witcher thing is an exception because GOG and CDPR have the same parent company. That sort of thing isn't offered for anything else.

That said, BGEE doesn't really offer anything that isn't already done by the mod community and/or GemRB, so IMO it's a waste of money.
A little off topic,. but I had The Witcher 2 on Steam, and it automatically upgraded to the Enhanced Version there too.

Well, it doesn't look like a good deal, from what I've read there isn't much more than what you can have freely with mods : BG2 engine, hires, some new NPCs... 20$ for that ?? :(

I found the EE to be somehow more enjoyable than a self-modded version of the original game. But maybe it's just because i like to have things "clean" and messing around with fixpacks and mods which all have different optional things to install i always feel like i missed an important option or don't like something i installed and can't change it back without restarting my campaign. So i guess EE is just the right thing for me... ;)

So the BGEE is the right thing for you since you have less options for customisation and you are stuck with a secondhand dev's decision on what's best... Makes sense...

Interestingly, the EE for BG1 has been pulled from sale for copyright issues and it is unsure whether an EE for BG2 will ever come out.

However, that pulling from sale strangely does not affect the Steam offer for BG1 EE (where there is also a 75% discount until Thursday, reducing price to < 5 €)

If the BG: EE came out on GoG I would buy it (how soon depends on if there was a discount for owning the original) but I will never again allow Steam anywhere neart my PC. What a horrible nightmare of a service! Not just the disastrous DRM-type crap that comes with having Steam on your system but even when I decided to re-buy all of my Steam games on GoG (save for Worms: Reloaded which has not yet come to GoG) and then went to uninstall Steam from my system and all of it's games (I think I had over a dozen) I had to fight with Steam just to get rid of the crap! Using Steam for me was like going to a Chinese buffet where there are dozens of different things to eat but every different one requires you to juggle chainsaws for 5 minutes before eating.

BG EE is lacking in many things, compared to the original. Had cutscenes removed, (beneficial) bugs/exploits corrected, more bugs created in an effort to manage old ones, and a lot of them too, plus with 2 spells and kits, it is very broken, even for powergamers. The best experience is GoG version. I have played them both.
