I'm actually glad they're staying with 2nd edition AD&D instead of porting to 3rd ed. I thought the feats in IWD2 were tacked on and not very well thought through. Additionally, I prefer the unique feel of the old mechanics over the blandness of the new ones.

That said, it's a pretty good idea that they're trying to add the subraces from IWD2. I hope they succeed with that. It would be really cool to have the IWD2 subraces and the BG2 kits in one game (tiefling kensai).

Trent Oster said it on his Twitter recently. It's now also recapped in the GameBanshee article linked in the first post of this topic. (The article gets updated with new information from time to time.)
I have a question for those of you more into the gaming information scene. I assume that Atari still owns the rights to BG so does that mean that we, members of GOG who have bought Baldur's Gate Complete of both I and II will have the enhanced edition when it is released? Or will GOG have to negogiate for those games too? The two reasons I ask is that first, GOG has said that they will have the latest patches, etc. and to me this seems more like an ultimate edition rather than a new property or even revamping from what little I have read. The second reason is I have only read two articles on BG Enhanced Edition, one was on the website had a countdown and the other was an article that ipad was going to get a release date and they said in the article that the price point was going to be 9.99. Thanks for any information because I love the BG series though BG2 was a my favorite, although BG 3 might just give BG2 a run for favorites spot in my geeky little heart.

I don't think a remake falls under the "patch"-category.
The reason I asked was from what I have read, and as I said, I only read two articles, it sounds more like updated graphics and one questline+one npc added. To me a remake is the original plus additional content that could not or would not be added to the original without a mod or expansion pack. One of the articles sounded as if it was the original game plus what you could have today with mods. The articles in question make it sound less like a "remake" as you put it and more like a port to a newer system. A friend of mine said it was nearly identical to the widescreen mods+questlines you could put in through mods(and no I understand that this specific questline the article mentioned you cannot get unless you buy the game when it releases as it was made by the developers of this release). This is the reason I asked those of you who know more about it as it sounds similar to the Witcher vs Witcher Enhanced edition or for those of us who bought it, Witcher 2 and GOG has said that they will upgrade the Witcher 2 to Witcher 2 Enhanced at no charge so...my question as to whether or not GOG will release this game as part of the Baldur Gate if we had already bought it. Especially as the price point I was told was under $10 though that may have been solely for iPad.

Though since, it is new developers it will likely be unavailable from GOG until a new deal is made.

Up to this point we have no idea how "enhanced" the enhanced edition may turn out to be.
There is a lot of speculation and some iPad screenshots, that according to the developer is still far from the finished product.

We'll have to see how it ends up.

But as it's a different company it would be weird of them to give away remakes for free don't you think? So I'm 100% certain you won't get it for free (if you aquire it legally that is :P)
And they just announced it's coming as a Native Mac App...

3 days ago I bought the whole Baldur's Gate...
sigh...

BTW, this goes to all you Mac Haters, it is a big deal to have this native, it's a freaking nightmare to install the popular mods on wine-based solutions.

I would doubt that mods would work on the EE. But I could be wrong.

Well, what is the most popular mod? Widescreen.
Second? BGT or EasyTuTu, to play on a more current Infinity Engine.

With an updated Infinity Engine, who needs any of those?

If there is a Mac App, at a decent price and with the simplicity of the App Store, it's only logical that a new community of modders will surface... Of course only the Mac App Store version could be modded...

ArbitraryWater: What the heck is Beamdog? I mean, I'm totally on board with enhanced remakes of both Baldur's Gate games, but I'd rather not have to install another digital distribution client.
Beamdog= Ex-Bioware employees

I'm SO sorry, my bad, Beamdog is a developer founded by Trent Oster.
And who is Trent Oster?

Just Bioware's Co-Founder...

Trent's achievements?

Dragon Age: Origins (2009), Electronic Arts, Inc.
Mass Effect (2007), Microsoft Game Studios
Neverwinter Nights 2 (2006), Akella
Neverwinter Nights (Gold) (2003), Atari, Inc.
Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark (2003), Atari, Inc.
Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide (2003), Atari, Inc.
Neverwinter Nights (2002), Infogrames, Inc.
Baldur's Gate (1998), Interplay Productions, Inc.
Shattered Steel (1996), Interplay Productions, Inc.
Besides, Trent has said that there are at least 5 original Baldur's Gate developers working on the enhanced edition. Conspiracy theories are conspiracy theories.
My guess is to see where it goes who knows that they will found out that the engine that they are using sux and then they will switch over to another one...

And then it will become something better than a enhanced version...lets hope...
