Try running setup-ddrawfix.exe & uninstall it.

I have the same problem as you. I'm not using the G3 widescreen mod because it makes some of the text invisible.
The only resolution that doesn't have this problem from me (selected from BGConfig.exe) is 1280x960.
BUT choosing this introduces another problem: My game crashes when I right-click to view MANY items, and I can't view the inventory of any character that dual wields or holds a 2-handed melee weapon. (surprisingly bows work fine)
