I simply loved IWD and I played the hell out of it when I first got the Mac OS 9 port many years. For me, it was the perfect cRPG: BG2 but without all of the awful romance crap that got in the way of my game. I know that having inter-party banter was part of what made BG2 so good, but really, I don't need Aerie interrupting me in the middle of a battle to ask me if that new +2 Robe I got her makes her look fat. :P

You think that's bad? Someone was working on a BG2 mod that would've converted it into IWD2's engine! And there's a mod on Gibberlings 3 that the writer's been working on for at least 6 years! (Though that second one still isn't a dead mod, thankfully - I'm still hopeful, as the writing is AMAZING.)
Edit: why, oh why won't italics work for me? *Sad panda face*

I can almost guarantee it will be one of the next few to get put on here. They will prally do either 2 things. 1 They'll release icewind dale 1. That way each of the three is out. Or 2 Baldurs gate 2, followed by icewind dale 1 and then 2. That makes the most sense to me.Of course im not in charge.

IIRC (and from checking the site you linked to again), that project is barely beta and not stable/complete enough for a serious playthrough. I mean, they have to basically reroll every single NPC and encounter in the entire game.
I prefer 3rd Ed to 2nd too, but port to the IWD2 engine is a huge undertaking and it doesn't look like they're any closer than they were several years ago.
I hate speaking ill of fellow fans who work hard (for free) to improve what they love, but my honest feedback to those projects is that the writing was pretty bad. I prefer my imagination/silent companions to those IWD NPC fan-packs. If someone else enjoys them, more power to them though.
