xenobrain: *snip* do stuff to make BG1 awesome on modern PC
Wonderful post, appreciate it greatly.
Why doesn't that GUI mod support any 16:9 resolutions. Any way i can contact the creators? Can't figure out how to sign up on their site.
what install order? how important is? I will do in order listed?

Tried it, can't get most of them to install, try to run the installer and they say i don't have a working bg install but I certainly do. Do these not work on gamersgate version, do I need gog install? how to make it work anyway? no option to select folder it looks in. And I tried running them from the BG1 folder and got the same message.

problem is for the following

BG1TOSCGameTextUpdate11
BG1FixPack11
BG1UB_v13
bgqe-8.1
BW_Herbs

Sorry I didn't get here but when GG has a sale this game, BG2, IWD, IWD2, Planescape and TOE is $6 and like here is also DRM free from them. When I saw GOG run a sale on this its total cost drops to.....$10 higher than their competition's regular price. o_O
GG had a sale the other day and now I have the anthology pack.

xenobrain: modz n advice
Do these run on the GOG version? If so where is the folder located? Can't find a way to make the installers look in the right place so I might try reinstalling and moving my game files to wherever they check instead.

Unless you know of a less "user firendly" version that makes me copy/paste/overwrite the items manually. That would be helpful.

Thanks for your time
The GUI mod is terrible. I am having the same issues as the guy about 5 posts above (except he solved his issue by just deciding to play a different version of the game, which, isn't a solution really is it?). My resolution is the correct format to work with the GUI mod, everything was working fine, it's just if you decide to ever CHANGE your resolution AT ALL, it puts your menu screen in the corner.

The thing that bugs me and makes me say that it's terrible is that EVERY MOD LISTED HAS AN UNINSTALL FEATURE, and GUI doesn't. I would like to uninstall the gui mod but I can't because I have no idea where/how I could do that through the folders.

EDIT: turns out if you delete all the folders that have to do with the gui mod, then re install it, then re install the widescreen mod, it works now

BG1 NPC Portrait Pack
If you don't like the original portraits, or just want to freshen the look of your game a little, check out this collection of high-quality alternative portraits for the games' NPCs.
The link provided isn't dead, but just requires an "s" in the URL to make it portraits and not portrait.

Just to let you know :)
So can I assume BG1 doesn't work in 1366x768 resolution?

Use the widescreen mod set to 1280x720, it's the same aspect ratio.

I tried that resolution but everything is still off. The loading screen and main menu all appear in the top left corner and the actual GUI is goofy looking as well.

That is the problem with the Widescreen mod, since some BG assets just don't scale. You can make it somewhat better by using the W_GUI mod installed after the widescreen mod, if you are using BGT/TuTu.
Yea I guess I was hoping to do a more vanilla experience but I guess TuTu is ultimately the way to go. Again I appreciate the help.

For a BG1 engine game use the Widescreen mod with 1280 X 768 & Don't choose support for multiple resolutions.
Then install the TWM_GUI mod http://athkatla.cob-bg.pl/viewtopic.php?t=3257
Isn't unfinished business for Tutu BGT only?

Also, you forgot about one big fixpack:

xenobrain: Widescreen Mod and GUI Mod
Be sure to use one of the following resolutions when installing widescreen or the installing the GUI mod will fail: 1024x600, 1024x768, 1280x768, 1280x800.

To install the GUI mod, unpack the RAR archive you downloaded, run the executable and point it to your BG1 directory, the go to that directory yourself and run Setup-TWM_GUI.exe
I installed both of these, and they work for the most part. One problem I'm having is that as I move my cursor along the top edge of the screen, it changes to a diagonal cursor about half way and starts scrolling northeast. The same thing happens with the bottom edge, except it starts scrolling southeast. About half way down the left and right edges, it scrolls southwest and southeast respectively. Has anyone else had this problem?

The only other issue I've noticed is that when I load a save file the screen appears in the top left corner instead of in the middle.

I ended up reinstalling the game. This time I followed this guide instead. So far it is working much better.

Basically, he has you install EasyTutu which includes the bug and text fixes referred to in this thread, but it also runs BG1 on the BG2 engine. This means it will use the BG2 GUI as well, but you can install Original BG1 GUI.

It will also use the BG2 paperdolls and shield animations, which you can fix with 1PP. The components you need from 1PP are "Core paperdolls," "Extended palette entries (compatibility install)," "Legacy shields" and "Core updates and item patches." Core paperdolls will restore the BG1 paperdolls, and legacy shields will restore the shield animations to match the paperdolls. (Extended palette and core updates are required.)

Just make sure you install it before the widescreen mod. I've got it running at 1280x720 and it is great.

Edit: Just realized EasyTutu will also use the BG2 thief animations. To fix that install the "Female dwarves" and "Thieves galore" components from 1PP. (Female dwarves is required by thieves galore.)
