Just wondering who has this preference. In the original system (Avernum 1), you don't have to spend your skill points right away, and there is an infinite source of them later (which doubles as a money sink). In the remake, you can only spend them at level up, and there is the annoying one point per skill per level rule, which makes it harder to teach characters new abilities later in the game. (If you are level 15 and haven't started learning spells, you won't be able to learn them all.)

Also, I like the increasing cost of skills, as it helps keep balanced characters viable in comparison to focused characters.

I thought it was just me, but I couldn't come up with a good reason to post in here & ask about it!
I do. I tried the remake and found I disliked the new skill system. My personal preference.
The biggest thing I didn't like about the new system was the hard cap you quickly ran into.
I personally think that in exile trilogy (freeeware right now!) skill system/spells are far better than in any avernum versions.

aww man you mean they changed it??? god why did they change things WHYYYY!! *crawls off to a dark corner to wallow in misery*
It's not so bad. If you don't put a single point into a skill until after level 20 you can get locked out, but there are enough skill points to easily have six things at 10+Training.
