Is it? The no wizard spells seems a little steep.

Edit: What happens if I get the fake rings?

As far as I've played all it does is remove your ability to cast mage spells. Once I realized that I just ignored it on subsequent playthroughs. It might give you more bonuses later on but at least in the short term you don't get much for it.
