So, I just recently bought Avadon: The Black Fortress, thinking that as an old-ish game it should relatively-easily run on Linux via WINE.
Alas, at least for me, it seems that I was mistaken. :/
Specifically, it would crash immediately after the launcher (on which I could select resolution, windowed mode, etc.), showing a black window and a terminal shortly before both crashed.
Or at least, until I selected "GE-Proton (Latest)" as my WINE-flavour for the game--whereupon it started working!
So! If you, like me, are having such troubles, perhaps try that version of WINE--or at least, try various versions (baseline WINE, WINE-GE, etc.) and see whether one of them works for you!
