Update: this is for outdated versions, see my next post for current issues.

Atlantis 1:
- Slow in-game movies. They play about 1.5-2 slower than they should. Sound during movies plays in normal speed.
- Stuttering cursor in menu.

Atlantis 2:
- The game will not start if you have no CD-ROM/DVD-ROM attached to your system. I guess developers forgot to remove the check for CD-ROM from GOG version. There is a corresponding entry in game log file.
- No in-game movies. No intro, no transitions between scenes, nothing. Game log file is filled with corresponding errors.
- Missing background music from time to time. Including the main menu and credits. Judging from log, the problem is again in missing/misplaced files.
- Multiple errors in log file related to missing game resources (like .spr and .db files). I guess this causes some graphics not to show up.

Atlantis 3:
- Game settings are reset to defaults on each restart.
- Cursor is not visible in game menu with default settings. Switching to 32-bit color mode helps.
- Previous issues combined make it very painful to play the game.

The above issues show up on Windows 8 x64 for me and the games are almost unplayable because of them :(

I have the exact same problem on Windows 7 x64. Does anyone know a solution?

moel: I have the exact same problem on Windows 7 x64. Does anyone know a solution?
I don't have a solution, but I remember the game had this problem in the original release as well.
Update: for some reason GOG downloader was getting outdated versions of the games for me, 1.x, while manual download had no such issues. Maybe this is a recent update, and dowloader got them first. Either way, currently both methods work fine. I'll list remaining bugs in latest versions:

Atlantis 1:
- Slow in-game movies. They play about 1.5-2 slower than they should. Sound during movies plays in normal speed.
- Stuttering cursor in menu.

Atlantis 2:
- None

Atlantis 3:
- Game settings are reset to defaults on each restart.
- (New) Corrupted graphics during cutscenes. Shows up only when subtitles are on.
I may have found a solution to the issue the first Atlantis... I was having issues with the first Desperados game and in there forum stumbled across a ddraw wrapper at this address http://bitpatch.com/ddwrapper.html .

Remembering that someone had suggested direct draw was the issue with Atlantis I figured I would give it a go and dropped the wrapper and its config file into the Atlantis main directory. I then went into the config file (aqrit.cfg) and changed the line ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 0 to ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 1. This seems to have got the videos working, but I'm not too sure about the stability. I'm going to do some more tweaking to see if it really does work well.

EDIT: It appears I was wrong... This method smooths out the choppiness of my videos, but they still play out quite slowly

Having looked at some youtube videos of the intro, I think GoG have done something to their version to slow down the in game conversations (on the youtube video when you talk to people they animate at ridiculous speed while on the gog one they animate normally) but that this has had a knock on effect on the video cutscenes. Not sure if this is correct, I'm just guessing here

lag in atlantis 1 is fixed http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Atlantis:_The_Lost_Tales#GOG.com_version_is_laggy
i will soon start looking into atlantis 2

-mirh
atlantis 2
if you still have no movies playing, check the windows 98 compatibility mode

and atlantis 3
i found out what's the problem with its settings resetting

the game write them in .\Datas\Atlantis3.cfg
but it reads them from .\Datas\Atlantis4.cfg (which is actually absurd, since this game is the third in the series)

so you just need to rename it (change the 3 into a 4), after you have arranged your preferences and whenever else you'd like to change your settings

-mirh

EDIT: you can also permanently fix this atlantis 3 bug, by hex editing the name of the cfg file at offset 003148F0
just change 34 2E 63 to 33 2E 63 (which change Atlantis4.cfg to Atlantis3.cfg)

and i'm also looking for the atlantis 1 settings reset bug
EDIT2:ok, i sorted out i had only to wait to pass the next checkpoint to save my preferences

Some issues (I had flickering in the menus) might be solved by using this wrapper:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wined3d4win/

It did not help with the missing body parts in Atlantis 1 though :(
I have found my old CD version of atlantis and it still works AND shows the missing body parts. Unfortunately it still has the CD check included so I was looking for an executable file with the CD-check removed but could not find any. Will GOG ever fix the missing body parts? The game is not the way it is supposed to be so I guess GOG should fix it.
I had played the first Atlantis from beginning to end without having the missing body parts. I will have to go back and make sure GOG didn't release any kind of patch that caused it for you all. I can tell you the resolution to the lag is related to the number of CPU cores being used. If i remember correctly it was trying to use multicore and you need to run a 3rd party app to force single core usage... although it may have been the other way around (trying to run single and should be multi). I know I wrote the solution in an older post on here last year. In any event that was only when I played in Windows, it runs flawlessly in Linux.

Edit:
I tried both the recommended fixes in this thread both the Hex editing and the 3rd party direct draw wrapper and they both work well as work arounds individually. I tried even using them both together and they actually benefited each other very slightly. My point of reference is during the opening movies. On the second movie each of these fixes individually get everything running about the same smoothness wise, but the video would end prematurely at the flash where the word Atlantis is supposed to appear just before the flash fades off and the word actually became visible. Those 2 fixes together allowed the video to progress to the point where the flash fades off and the word Atlantis can me seen for about a second before ending the video and continuing to the profile select. To me that looks just the way I remember it originally.

Thank you f1ac, pcgamingwiki and everyone who's looked into the issues.

I don't own the games here on GOG, but have them through Gamestop (formerly Impulse)

The fixes (for Atlantis 3 at least) worked perfectly.

And took a lot less effort than getting the game to download in the first place thanks to Gamestop seemingly turning off their authentication servers

Hell yeah ! The same method worked for me too ! Combine both fixes and you should be fine. Yet another victory !

Hi all,

Can someone help me out with the Hex editing? I've opened atlantis.exe in it but it can't find E9 D2 FD 06, either in the application or in Notepad.

Notepad doesn't work for editing hex data. You want something like WinHex.

Where are you getting that hex string? It's not mentioned in this thread.

It was from a different thread and also mentioned as a soution on PCgamingwiki.com. I haven't had a chance to check the video speed because my game keeps crashing.

Are there any solutions for crashes? Or freezing, rather. When I hit esc to open the menu and also some movements will make the game freeze with looping music.
