Gudadantza: Yes, I see the guards without the complete face armor, or the fisherman's beard, but I always saw those NPC in that way, at least the GOG version, when it wanted to run. Or maybe I was using some kind of fix, wrapper to be able to run the game (ddrawcompat probaly), because indeed it was impossible, and the supposed workaround caused the same glitches with the faces and body parts. At least now it runs stable
The bug was introduced with an update here on GOG - it wasn't always there.

Gudadantza: There were other problems more serious that this glitch. It had problems with the speed/framerate in some scripts or scenes and they could be game breakng.
Those problems are the ones I'd like to know if have been fixed definitively. About the missing body parts I hope this gives vivsbility to the problem. These days they are hotfixing the games. Now or never. We'll see.
Speed problems are gone with this unofficial patch at least. The GOG version right now is running pretty good but there still is some stutter that is absent with the patched version.

insomniac09: Can we use the original 4 CD ISOs to play the game on dosbox?
You just need to call DOSINST.BAT in DosBox.
If you don't have the folder ATL_DOS on the 1st CD, you can download the respective files here.

That will be very helpful! Thanks!

Do you mind posting here the steps needed to run the 4CD version of the game on dosbox? Or at least link to a guide for doing so? Never used dosbox before and I struggle to find a way.

1)
Create a folder called "Atlantis", for instance D:\Games\Atlantis

2)
Download DosBox to the Atlantis folder

3)
Extract the DosBox exe with 7-zip & rename the new folder to "DosBox"

4)
Copy all files from the ATL_DOS folder (on the 1stCD) to the root Atlantis folder

5)
Copy a dosbox.conf file into the Atlantis folder.
If you don't have one, copy it here:
https://github.com/ruscoe/dosbox-conf/blob/master/dosbox-0.74.conf

6)
Edit dosbox.conf by deleting everything below this line:
[autoexec]

... and add the following instead:
@echo off
mount c "."
c:
cls
setsound
exit

7)
Create a file called Atlantis.bat with this content:
start DosBox\DOSBox.exe -conf "dosbox.conf"

8)
Double-click on Atlantis.bat in order to set the sound card

9)
Edit dosbox.conf again by deleting everything below:
[autoexec]

... and add:
@echo off
mount c "."
c:
mount d e:\ -t cdrom
atldos
exit

Granted your CD-Rom is not called E:\, but G:\, use this line:
mount d g:\ -t cdrom

10)
Double-click on Atlantis.bat in order to run the game.
If you want fullscreen, edit this line in the dosbox.conf:
fullscreen=true

Here you can find tips that help to run the game without problems.
ScummVM team made progress on supporting Cryo engine.

I just tested the non-interactive demo of Atlantis the Lost Tales on ScummVM it works fine.

They recently added support for HNM6 this last summer.

Let's hope everything will be supported soon !

MarkoH01: Just talk to the guards right at the beginning. They do miss some armor on their face. If you don't know the game you might not notice but it's definitely a bug. In the trailer for this patch you can also see how it is supposed to look.

Gudadantza: Definitibely a weird bug.

In the DosBox, for those who have the original 4CDs, the solution for the gfx glitches you have 2 ways to play it:

- Or you install the DOS version, like it was said here before, on CD1 there is a folder ATL_DOS, inside use DOSINST to install it. This version don't have gfx glitches, the speed is smoother, the sound and music works fine, but still bugs happen, if the cycles or machine selected in dosbox.conf are too fast or too slow for the computer you have.
You have to install an official patch and a fix mouse patch (ATLCUT), because the mouse don't work on DOS version. After install the patches, you have to run the game with "ATLCUT 11" command.

- Or you install the Win95 version, here the gfx glitches happens with normal display windows drivers, so you MUST install the 3DFX Voodoo 1 in Win 95 (Voodoo 2 in Win 98, or Voodoo 3 (this one needs a fix patch after installation) in Win XP and above). After that installation the gfx are ok now, but now there are sound glitches, to solve that try reduce the cycles and the machine (ex: machine=386 ; cycles=30000) or try use Gravis Ultrasound. The sound and graphics will be ok now, but the game is slower then DOS version. Still some bugs can happen like, ocationally game freezes in transitions from game sequence to animation sequence.

I still don't know the miracle solution like the best dosbox.conf for DOS version or for WIN95 version.
I don't know if Win 98 works better then Win 95 for this game yet, but you could try and say something here.
For those who need instructions for the voodoo drivers installation on WIn95 in DosBox, I recommend this site, it has all you need: http://dosbox95.darktraveler.com/important.html .

I really hope a Extended Cut Edition for DosBox (in DOS version would be great) will happen soon to solve all the major problems, because the genuine original version of the game still the best version (not the gog version), and because the GOG Extended Cut Edition didn't work for me (the working recomended config put the game screen literally out the screen, all I can see is a low res 4:3 desktop screen in full screen, the other options works but the game freezes frequently. The VM workstation is not a solution for me, i don't have a CPU for that. The ScummVM version is good news to me.
I know there is a new special version (or versions) of DosBox with Voodoo drivers integrated for DOS and Windows games, like Dosbox-ECE (basically it's a Dosbox 0.74-3 patched with drivers and code implementations), I will try that too.

Yffisch: Thank you thank you! I've been looking forward do this for so long, especiallty the Swedish language support. I'm so grateful for your work and you're worth all creds for this. I just want to add some reflections and findings:

The cutscenes were very laggy when I started the game with default settings. I tried experimenting with framerate but it did not help. I had to run it in the "Windowed fullscreen mode" feature to make it work perfectly. It was not a problem since it was fullscreen anyways. Just for other people to know. Also the game suddenly crashes from time to time at 30FPS. Seems like it's some quicktime spinner bar that appears before game crashes. I lowered to 25fps and it worked better, but it still crashes from time to time, but the game always auto saves so it's not that big of an issue. Maybe every 30 minutes or similar. Sometimes it does not crash at all for hours.

Also, while doing the rat puzzle with the trolls chasing the queen, that quicktime spinner appeared every 10 seconds and I thought the game was about to crash, but it never did. It made me very nervous though.

I totally love the new music added at the stone head beach. Though the new dialog with hector inside the volcano (Moria?) after the spinning lady, that dialogue was totally worthless. It really destroyed all the mystic feeling you have at that place. Also, the cube told you that "Hector, you will never see him again", and then suddenly he was screaming to you inside the volcano "Seth, what are you doing? You've been gone for a week...me and Naka bla bla...please say hello to him from me, good luck lol". That part was totally ridiculous. I really understand why they removed that dialogue. I would suggest keeping it in the "I've played atlantis before" option, but maybe it's already like that.

And sometimes when you quit the game, you have to watch the full credits before game stops running no matter what you click. And you have to click about 20 times on your user profile before game actually reacts on the click.

Also, the user interface in the patch startup screen looks veeeery basic and non-professional. It's just a suggestion to improve it if you wish. I do not complain. I totally love you for all your hard work with this. Just use this as feedback!

Thankyou so much!
Has anyone played with extended cut with wine?
Any hint to run it would be appriciated. I can play GoG version with it but after using extended cut updater it keeps asking me to run setup. Maybe someone already had that issue?
Hi,

Can someone try this test fix for the game ?

Need be tested on a unpatched/not modified version of Atlantis installed from GOG.

Make sure you using the lastest version from Galaxy or Offline Installer.

And don't install any patch or Extended Cut for this test.

Download:
https://tgames.fr/tgames/PC/ATL_TEST.zip

To change the FPS Limit, edit "dxwrapper.ini" at line :
"LimitPerFrameFPS "

If by using some modern hooks the game is stable i will update the software to switch to that solution.

Best Regards.

Hello tgamesfr

Just did a clean installation of Atlantis through the Galaxy and replaced the files which you posted in the zip.

The game starts, but when I get to the loading game screen I don't see the mouse cursor and basically can't do any other action apart from CTRL+F4 to quit. Is that a bug?

Well, the test fix is working on my PC (Windows 11), I did get the issue with the cursor disappearing in the menu, but I simply minimized the window and then returned to the game and the cursor was there and working. I played for a while and the game seems pretty stable, apart from some frame rate hiccups here and there. It didn't crash at all though.
Are you still working on this? I certainly hope so, I absolutely love the Atlantis series.

That's excellent. That method proved effective for me too. I'm curious if this latest version with the test fix incorporates all the enhancements from the extended cut versions of the games, such as new dialogues, options, and areas. Have you advanced far enough in the game to verify these additions?

No, this is not the "Extended Cut". This is just the original game, without any additions.
