After playing a dozen different discounted games i've picked up the past few weeks, this was a cheap surprising fun game to play. It wasn't a cakewalk, it took using your brain in the battles, adjusting your troops based on what your last defeat looked like, and very entertaining for the low price you can pick it up on sale.
Some game hints. rewards and benefits from chests (usually gold OR authority) and altars (various choices) are based on your characters level, so you want to save chests and altars until later in the game. Why open a chest that gives levelx2 authority when your level 5 (+10 authority) or you can wait until you finish the first 2 islands, go back and open it when your level 45 (+90 authority). You get the idea.
This makes the game a little tougher on the first 2 islands, but makes the final island one where you don't even lose 1 troop due to super fast Fury archers mowing down enemies. But you can open and use altars as you play to make the early 2 islands easier, but the last island harder. Either way you can still finish it fine.
Also your main can't be an archer, and being a melee warrior sucks, so always be a mage. Upgrade only health and magic power and a little magic resist (1/2 the level of health and magic power). Make sure to have 2000 health when you finish the first island because when you get to the 2nd island, there is a battle where if you don't have high health, you cannot win the battle and continue. Fast troops will hit your main for 1500+ damage and there is no way to stop them from their initial attack.
Most spells aren't used in the game and only a few are used, but spells don't cost a lot so you can buy them all if you wish.
One of the best fun little game you can get when on sale for under a dollar. A no brainer. Sadly you really can only be a mage, but that is ok when your chucking off triple fireballs to whittle down enemies. The best troops in the game are Fury archers get as many as you can, but also there are some other troops almost just as good (dragonslayers, heavy infantry, etc) that are both very fast (15 speed), armored, and good damage. These are your late game troops.
