Steam store page for this game says "Requires 3rd party account: Xbox LIVE ...".

Is this valid also for the edition from GOG store? Or can the GOG-edition be played as is, with no extra account or any other DRM, whatsoever?

It's there but you don't need it at all.
I have played through the entire game twice without using the Xbox account. Hope this helps.

I can confirm. The option to sign into an Xbox account is there but so far I have had no negative things happen by not using it.
