I was wondering, as far as recipes are concerned, what are the different types of foods that can be created?
So far the best food item I've been able to create is a gourmet apple pie
mix water and flour
rolling pin action
add apples
add bottle of wine
set next to fire
serves one
Apart from my nothing pie and basic apple pie, I'm not too sure of any other Arx recipes.
There is a "goblin cook book" I've stumbled upon that mentions a recipe, but one ingredient is an egg and I've yet to see an egg in this game. (well, other than dragon eggs, but I have more important things to do with those than to eat them). Besides, I think that book intended to be given to that goblin chef....
Heh. I have spent a little time trying to feed chickens to get an egg though.
Does anyone know of other foods that Am Sheagar can cook?
You can "Cook" a whole chicken by throwing a fireball at it. It must be a full-blown fireball, too, not merely a magic missile or a bolt; a chicken that gets hit with a fireball transforms into a full roasted chicken. I recommend this method of cooking over simply killing the chicken; you generally only get a raw drumstick if you hack it up before roasting.
If you've got flour and water figured out, you probably already know how to make bread, and roasting meat is pretty elementary too. I wasn't aware that you could make an apple pie in this game; kudos to you for figuring that out!

The Cooking for Goblins book is used for a sidequest; as far as I know you can't complete the recipe yourself. There actually is a recipe that calls for a dragon egg, but that's for a a different sidequest.
EDIT: oh, and you forgot that you can cook fish too (it has to be "fresh", all other fish is pre-cooked). Unfortunately you can't make "fish pie" or "rat pie" or any other interesting combination. :(

How do you make bread? While I haven't experimented too thoroughly I've only been able to make pies.

Just flour and water. Cook the dough as-is instead of turning it into a pie crust.

Oh, how obvious! I never thought of trying that! I just stuck to "apple" and "nothing" pies. :)

...How? Seriously, how did you jump straight from nothing to pies?
Did you, perchance, learn to run before you could walk?

I don't recall. Maybe I noticed the interaction flashing, or maybe I found some apple pies and reckoned that was what the cooking system must be for. I don't know whether to feel really clever for figuring out pies or really stupid for not figuring out bread. :D
EDIT: now that I think about it, my reasoning was surely influenced by Ultima VII, which has baking steps much like Arx's except that the rolling pin is a required step. It's all Richard Gariott's fault. That explains everything!

Isn't it possible to make poisoned food in this game as well??

I don't think so (I couldn't find any combination that worked). You can however quaff a poison potion, with the expected results.
Edit: Ninja'd!
Also, poison food wouldn't serve any purpose except suicide, so it's quicker to just drink the poison.

I'm aware of the strange potion recipe for Lord Inut - ok, so that throws carrots and leeks into the equation for a cookbook list.....
Its mildly frustrating that there are apple pies, but not pizzas in the game - I mean, cheese, mushrooms, pie crust..... Come on! Pizza! Also, why pies and not cakes? I should be able to shove a carrot into a wad of dough, drop it on the ground next to a fire and have carrot cake.... you know, just like how I would cook a carrot cake in real everyday life.
As for poisoned food, heh, I bet King Alotar would consider Wine poison. I tried to drink enough wine to give Am Sheagar the goose poops too, but he ended up getting wasted instead.
Regarding suicide, there are much more effective ways to end it all..... hilarious ways mind you...

Oh, how I wish there were more recipes. I found out about apple pies pretty early on, and figured that that was just the beginning. Unfortunately not.
Also, can I just say this here so I don't have to make a whole new thread?
Goblin Chef: sooooooooooooooooooooooo racist!
