at start up its a black screen and sometimes crashes. I've tried compatibility mode and that didn't work either.

That's the exact same problem I'm having. I'm going to try a laptop I have that only has integrated graphics and is fairly old, so if I figure anything out I'll keep you posted...

Enable DirectPlay in Windows "Programs and Features > Legacy Components"

That'll get the game working.

Same issue and the suggested fix for intel 10th gen cpu didn't work either :( . Any traction from anyone else ?
