In the first mission, where you're dropped out of the helicopter, the leader person says that you're supposed to rally near the forest and he'll give you further instructions there ... Thing is, I think you're supposed to meet with the occupants of the other helicopter there as well, but the other helicopter lands on trees and explodes every time. I've tried restarting the mission and the game several times and it didn't help... Any ideas as to what the hell is going on?

That happened all the time back in the day. Just keep restarting the mission (don't load a save... do a "revert" restart) until it doesn't land on the trees.
I saw this too, but didn't even realise it was a bug. I waited a short time, and could continue with the mission with just my squad.
This is a known bug that was introduced in version 1.99. For some reason the campaign files for Cold War Assault aren't the same as they were in OFP version 1.96, and it's introduced some weird things like the helicopter in the first mission crashing into the trees and the mission never resuming after that. There's another bug there as well, where if you exit the helicopter too quickly it will take off and most of your squad will fall to their deaths. It's quite funny. :)

According to the Bohemia Interactive forums they're looking into it. I still have a boxed copy of the game so I just copied the 1984.pbo file over from version 1.96, but obviously if you only own the GoG version that's not possible.

Actually I do have boxed copy, I just lost the CD-key. Are the files accessible from the CDs directly? I suppose not, but it's worth to ask...

we are looking into it and getting the fixed 1985.pbo campaign up sooner than later ...
wish i knew how the older variant sneaked around our guards ...

Ah! AHA! Now I won't leave you alone, like ever! I mean, rep issues in ArmA, it's driving me nuts!
Just bought the game, and I've been experiencing the same bug as the first poster. I've tried reverting from the beginning of Flashpoint through the Campaign menu, and I've done this about 6-7 times already, but the second helicopter crashes every single time. Am I missing something?

EDIT: Managed to get it working on about the 10th time. Interestingly enough, this was the only time I left the helicopter while it said "Eject" instead of "Get Out". I might go back and see if I can replicate this.

EDIT2: Never mind, I tried the same thing twice and the helicopter still crashed. Well, at least I'm past that part now.

If I'm not mistaken, these are exactly the bugs that were introduced with OFP v1.90, before they were fixed by supplying a patched campaign file. This was the "1985 Campaign Fix" and, while it has been removed from the official site, you can still download it here:

http://operationflashpoint.filefront.com/file/1985_Campaign_Fix;14003

Might be worth a try to see whether this fixes the problems with GOG's 1.99 version too.

I think those fixes might be incorporated into this patch. I’m not sure if the GOG version has been patched.
